Have you ever heard of a ghost? Have you ever heard of a poltergeist? Well if you have you might know about the great amherst mystery. The Great Amherst Mystery was about a woman who goes my the name of Either Cox. She just moved into her new home and immediately was haunted by a poltergeist. This is one of the most witnessed paranormal event recorded.
Either Cox lived mostly a happy life. She did get sexually assaulted though that's when the poltergeist came to be. Either first started hearing noises under her bed thinking it was a rat. The next day she heard the same noises. She looked under her bed to check it out and found it was a metal box shaking. Her step brother came in the room hearing what's happening. Once he saw the box shaking Either opened it and the box stopped. Then he said they were about to enter hell.
The next night Either woke up possesed. She woke up screaming, “IM DYING” over and over until she fell back to a deep sleep not knowing what happened. She started seeing shadows. She also saw objects floating and moving from one place to another. One time she got really sick and called a doctor. The doctor came to her house ran some tests and didn't know what was going on. People around the neighborhood heard noises or seen events. The news spread like wildfire. Everyone was lining outside her house just to witness something. In fact a man came to there house so he can ask if she can take her on a tour to show people. Sometimes things would happen other times things wouldn't. There would be strange noises and sometimes if the host was lucky a loud loud bang. Like if someone slammed a table on the wooden set. When most people think of the early settlement they think of the first successful settlement, Jamestown, but this was not the first settlement in the New World. The settlement at Roanoke was the first attempt to colonize the New World. The settlement at Roanoke is often referred to as the “Lost Colony” because of its unusual disappearance. The reason people often do not know about the first settlement at Roanoke because it was abandoned, forgotten, and lost. The Roanoke settlement was located on an island on the northern coast of what is now North Carolina. A few more than a hundred English men first settled the colony at Roanoke Island in 1584. The conditions were harsh and between the lack of supplies and the troubles with natives of the area the settlement was all but doomed from the start. Three years after the initial settlement was founded, in 1587, more English arrived this time there were one hundred and ten colonists that consisted not just of men, but of women and children as well. Women and children were brought to the New World so that the settlement could become a fully functioning society. Of course this idea obviously did not work out as planned. The war going on in Europe between the English and the Spanish caused a delay of more supplies and people. If there had not been a prolonged delay in the resupplying process the entire course of American history may not have been what we know it to be now. If the war had started any earlier or later then people might have known more about the original first settlement of the New World. All the evidence left when people returned to Roanoke following the war in Europe was the word “CROATOAN” carved into a tree. Historians believe these to be marks left by the Croatoan Indians...

I was told a story about one of Cloudcroft's more famous ghosts when casually lounging in the undergraduate student physics lounge at the University of Maryland, College Park, with a group of students during a lunch break before class. This occurred during early April, 2005. I inquired whether anyone knew any ghost stories or folklore. A friend of mine volunteered that she knew several ghost stories from her travels. During the 1600s they realized its not possible for one governor and one assembly to run Carolina. The major settlements in North Carolina were Cape Fear, Charles Town, and Albemarle. The geographics of the North Carolina area are coastal plains, plateau, and mountain ranges. In The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, there are a lot of various occurrences within the walls of Hill House. Dr. Montague, Eleanor, Theodora, and Luke are staying at the believably haunted house as a part of Dr. Montague’s experiment to see if there is scientific evidence behind paranormal phenomena. As a matter of fact, they end up being the targets of all the happenings in the house. I believe that everything going on in the house is peculiar, but when you look deeper, there is some logic behind it all.
The Nelly Butler hauntings is referred to as the first recorded ghost story in American history (LiBrizzi 5), and possibly the most exciting hauntings to date as there are still many unsolved mysteries. The apparition appeared on more than 30 separate occasions to over 100 witnesses in Sullivan, Maine, just over fifteen years after the American Revolution (5-6). Although the Nelly Butler apparition is one of the most convincing ghosts of all time, it was subject to suspicions of fraud. These claims turn out to be groundless as the evidence reveals the ghost to be genuine.
