American Football is not merely a sport, its a culture. In the south football is in some ways a lifestyle. From the rivalries to the championships its truly one of the most exciting sports to have ever been created. This is why I love it so much, it is much more than just a game it has a much deeper meaning to it. From the outside looking in, many people do not fully realize the impact it has on each and every player throughout its history. Football has made me who I am today. I had my first experience with the sport when I was very small. At the age of 5 my family brought me to a Nashville Titans game. I still vividly remember the lights,colors and players being at such a young age I immediately fell in love with it. I wanted so bad to be like those 11 men on the field. Be that as it may I still loved the sport and did my very best to follow it. My dad started a flag football team for myself and my friends, this was where I became infatuated with it. Unfortunately after a slew of injuries in the off season I wasn 't able to play for 2-3 years. However once we moved back to the United States I was finally able to strap on pads and begin the sport I had so longed for. Coming back from Europe was truly a strange time. American Football is a huge spectator sport where offensive and defensive players will use teamwork and perseverance to try and score more points than their opponent. Football is highly respected in America, where boys will try and pursue the dream of playing in the NFL (National Football Association) someday; but if you look at an average neighborhood, you will find that kids and adults of all ages love to go out and throw around the pigskin. For as long as I can remember football has been a part of my life in some way, shape, or form. When I was first born my grandfather said that I was solid and built to play football. I used to throw the football with my mother when I was a toddler and she always told me that when I tried to tackle her I hit really hard. My first organized football experience was when I was five. I had just moved to Manassas, VA from Washington, D.C. in 1994. It was around fall and that was right at the beginning of football season in the area. I remember telling my mother that I wanted to play, so she looked for a local organization for children. She came across the Greater Manassas Football League (GMFL) and that is where I began to play the game I love.
It was a gloomy day, Hurricane Hermine blew past Greenville leaving behind scattered puddles across campus as well as lingering clouds blocking most of the sunlight. The air was cool yet there was a certain electricity present that made that day feel less dreary. It was the first home college football game, East Carolina University was going to play against Western Carolina University. The two institutions haven’t played each other since 1981 and it was sure to be an interesting match up, football season was back in full swing and this match would define the success to come for the home team.
