The Effect of Temperature on Air Pressure
DESCRIPTION:
My project consists of a series experiments to determine the effect of air pressure in a given environment at various temperatures. The experiments I chose to conduct are:
1) Heat an ordinary pop can on a hot plate and then putting the can upside down in cold water to see the effect of a fast change in temperature.
2) Partially full milk jug with hot water, put the cap on tightly, and let it sit for one hour to see the effect of a slow change in temperature.
3) Setting a small piece of paper on fire and then putting it inside a plastic bottle. Before the flame goes out, a pealed hard-boiled egg will be placed over the opening.
PROBLEM:
The problem is to determine the effects of air pressure at different temperatures. Since we cannot see air, we will attempt to determine if air exerts a force?
HYPOTHESIS:
My hypothesis for:
1) the experiment with the pop can is that the can will crush because of a drastic change in temperature.
2) the experiment with the milk jug and the hot water is that the milk jug will remain the same.
3) the experiment with the egg and the bottle is that the egg will not be sucked in the bottle.
PROCEDURE:
For the first experiment the procedure is:
1) Heat an ordinary pop can on a hot plate.
2) After about fifteen minutes take the can off the hot plate and put it upside-down in a pan of cold water.
3) Record my observations on a piece of paper.
4) Write my conclusions in my science fair logbook.
For the second experiment my procedure is:
1) Get an empty gallon milk jug at room temperature.
2) Heat to water to just before the boiling point on a hot plate.
3) Fill the milk jug about quarter of the way with hot water.
4) Put the lid on tightly
5) Wait one hour and record my observations and conclusions.
For the third experiment my procedure is:
1) Get a medium sized bottle.
2) Peel a hard boiled egg.
3) Light a small piece of paper on fire and put it inside the bottle.
4) Before the flame goes out put the pealed egg over the opening of the bottle.
5) Record my observations on a piece of paper.
2. Drop a gummy bear into each of your prepared beaker or cup and place the beaker or cup
It was learned that changing the volume of the same substance will never change the boiling point of the substance. However having two different substances with the same volume will result in two different boiling points. The purpose of this lab was to determine if changing the volume of a substance will change the boiling point. This is useful to know in real life because if someone wanted to boil water to make pasta and did not know how much water to
This is the major contributor to worldwide radiation exposure, Non-medical, man-made radiation used in small amounts in food irradiation, airport security scanners, and some consumer products. Exposure to man-made radiation can happen in certain workplaces, or in communities as a result of above ground nuclear weapons testing and nuclear accidents
Experimental Summary: First, my partner and I put the marshmallow and cheese puff on T-pins and used the Electronic Balance to measure the mass of each of them. Next, we put 100 mL of water in the 100 mL Graduated Cylinder and poured it into the 12 oz. soda can. We measured the temperature of the water with the thermometer. After
Then, repeat steps 7-11 another 4 times but with the room temperature water. For the room temperature water just leave it in the room but try not to change the room’s temperature. 15. Try to put all your recorded data into a table for organization 16. Repeat the entire experiment for more reliable data.
7.) After you have heated them to the right temperatures, pour the excess water into a dry evaporating dish. ( Be sure not to get any of the substance in your solution. )
Apart of becoming a new patient at a dental office is taking an x-ray and some may have question along with taking an x-ray, like “will I be affected by the x-ray?” or “will I get cancer?”, “how long will it take” “are x-ray’s safe?”, the list goes on and on. So in this paper we will talk about different types of radiation affects such as affects on children and pregnant women as well as some things that may help reduce some of the radiation that may harm the human body.
In a 100ml beaker 30mls of water was placed the temperature of the water was recorded. 1 teaspoon of Ammonium Nitrate was added to the water and stirred until dissolved. The temperature was then recorded again. This was to see the difference between the initial temperature and the final temperature.
Also, when we put the insulation cans in warn water the water heated up the can. And lastly, in the insulated can experiments, both cooling and heating, when the cans temperature was changed it in turn changed the air temperature
1. Obtain a clean, dry crucible and lid, then heat them for approximately 5 minutes over a Bunsen burner
Business internships are helping students gain real world experience while they are not actually out in the real world yet. Internships are becoming more and more popular with college students in today’s world. An internship is basically when a student in college goes to a company or business and works while they are still enrolled in school and still getting academic credit. The main purpose of the internship is for the student to gain valuable on the job work experience. But there are also other things that a student can get from internships. Internships help the student decide whether or not this line of work is correct for them. Since the student works in an occupation in which they are highly interested in it really helps them get a bigger picture of the outside world.
Methodology: A plastic cup was filled half way with crushed ice and mixed with four spoonfuls of 5 mL of sodium chloride. A thermometer was quickly placed inside the cup to take the temperature and the
The energy in ionizing radiation can cause chemical changes in the the cells that can lead to damaging them. Most of the cells can either permanently or temporarily become abnormal or they can just die. Radiation can cause cancer by damaging the DNA in the body. The damage of the cells can also depend on how long the organs are exposed (environmental protection agency, 2017, unknown). If someone has many exposures at one time that radiation in the body keeps adding on. As well as if its only a little bit of exposure in on day and years later you get exposed again it keeps adding on the radiation will never leave the body. Having radiation in your body doesn’t affect you right away but as you get older it starts to show and you feel it. Chronic exposure is when someone is exposed many time for long periods. When this happens the type of effects it will carry is having harmful generic change, cancer, tumors, and even cataracts. Partial health effects can also depend on if it was internal or external exposure. Internal exposure is when either by drinking, breathing, eating and even an injection cause radiation to get inside your body. External exposure is when taking an x-ray out of your body and letting it go through letting all the energy go as it goes in (environmental protection agency, 2017, unknown). In the dental world radiation gets into the patients when we take x-rays on there teeth. In order to avoid to much radiation on them we put a lead apron on them and make sure to cover their thyroid which is the most common way of getting cancer when taking an x-ray. When we take the x-ray we stand behind a wall at least 6 feet away to avoid ourself from getting
1. The labels have fallen off of three bottles thought to contain hydrochloric acid, or sodium chloride solution, or sodium hydroxide solution. Describe a simple experiment which would allow you to determine which bottle contains which solution.
Internship experience is essential for students to gain hands-on experience for future full time jobs and differentiate ourselves among competitors, especially for us who are taking MBA courses. Based on the network we built and skillsets gained through the internship, we could know more clearly whether we want to dedicate ourselves into related fields and industries. Besides, internship is a great opportunity to build important network that advances your career life and apply what you learned from school into the real business world. Therefore, you could compare the potential differences between theory and reality to pinpoint ideal future careers more accurately.
