There is an obscure tale to Mark Haddon’s The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time; beautifully conveying a dramatic dance between a dynamic young boy's desire to find the truth behind the killing of a beloved dog and the rest of the world. Within his works, Haddon challenges the expectations of what ‘humans’ can face by setting up a character, who is only 15 years of age, to tackle on massive obstacles. Haddon graciously evolves the character Christopher Boone to shine light on the admonishing difference between commitment, honesty, and evolution.

In spite of everything Christopher may face, he chooses to continue on with finding the truth with nothing but the truth. Thus, when Haddon finally reveals the murderer being Christopher's father, it brings a new conflict to the table. Surprisingly, Christopher found it hard to believe that his father was the one to blame, and thought the entire thing was a joke. But sadly, once he realizes that his father is telling the truth, he automatically becomes frightened and decides he wants to get away from home: “That meant he could murder me, because I couldn’t trust him, even though he had said “Trust me,” because he had told a lie about a big thing” (Haddon 122). In the first place, Christopher takes honesty very seriously. How serious? In the novel, he claimed that if he were to lie about something that didn’t happen, Christopher would instantly feel “shaky and scared” (Haddon 19), hence the same way he felt when he found out the truth about his father. Now, he can’t trust his dad anymore, he doesn't know when his father is telling the truth or not,and the worst part of it all, he’s afraid of his own father.
