The Sparkly Crown The crown was so bright and shiny. It was all mine, until someone interfered. The only thing standing between me and the crown, was a girl named Callie Yearous. Her hair is light brown and she is tall. In the Summer of 2016, just me and Callie ran for Miss. Sumner. Sumner, IA is a beautiful little quite town. Sumner has cute little shops downtown. We have Sumner Day’s every year. The I was the only one running for it. Callie’s mom convinced her to be a candidate. There was this great huge interview we both had to go through. The panel of judges was randomly selected people from out of town. The judges were dressed really formal. I was wearing a formal flowery dress. The room was so quite when I walked in. I introduced myself to the judges. They asked a lot of questions. One of the questions they asked was “If you had to show a guest around town, where would you take them?” My reply was “I would take them to the movie and then to the ice cream shop.” The was a lot of pressure in the interview portion. I assumed I did pretty well at the time. The next couple of day was dragging on. I just wanted to know who would get the crown. Finally, the day of the crowning was here. My hair …show more content…
There was so much tension on the stage. The next thing I heard was the 2016 Miss Sumner is… Callie Yearous. In that moment there was so much emotions running through me. The next thing I heard was the 2016 1st runner up is… Rebecca Paulus. People from the crowed clapped and applauded for us. I was holding my tears back. We took pictures after for the newspaper. I was still holding back the tears from rolling down my face. When I got done and saw my mom I got tears in my eyes. All my family and friends where there. My thoughts at the time were to crawled in to bed and eat ice cream. But I had to be strong and show my face that whole weekend. She got a $100 scholarship for winning Miss Sumner. That could have been all
I turned in an application for the position of yearbook editor at my high school at the end of junior year. The two current editors and my yearbook teacher interviewed me for the position. These editors were my friends of course, but I was still so nervous, I wanted to prove to them that I was an eligible candidate. I got a few laughs in but tried to keep it as professional as I could. A few days passed and I had begun questioning the status of my application. One day in class, my teacher called me in the hallway. He was standing outside and asked me if I would like to accept the position of the editor. I was frozen, caught off guard, I was not expecting this. My heart was racing, I could feel my face getting warmer, I couldn’t speak all I could do was laugh nervously. I finally got myself together to form the word “yes.”As a freshman, I never would have thought that I would be taking on such a big responsibility. It wasn’t
When the dorm step show came homecoming week I was so nervous you would have thought I was about to be interrogated. The female’s dorm Kleist had just begun finishing up and they came back and said, “High Rise you’re up.” From that moment on, my nerves began to take over. My heart felt like it was beating out of my chest. The crowd started screaming as soon as they saw us coming out onto the stage. Once I heard people yelling out, “yessss go Tre!, go High Rise!” those butterflies flew away and I instantly grew confidence. It was like I had a flashback of myself being in another cookout or party when I was a kid and I let it out. Before we could even finish our first step, the crowd nearly blew the roof off of the gym. Once I heard the crowd’s reaction that allowed me to get comfortable and start really having fun. After our performance, I knew we had a good chance to win but I wanted to stay humble because the other teams worked hard. After the last performance, they said that they were going to announce the winning team. I shook hands and hugged all of my teammates and closed my eyes tight like I was making a wish. The announcer said, “Drumroll please….and your winner is……. High Riseeee!.” The entire team ran out on the floor full of energy and joy; it was like we won the Super

...r mother, tears flowing down her face, “Mother, I did it. I won, I won; they gave me first prize; they clapped and clapped and wouldn’t let me go.” From that phone call Emily was belated with joy, but still no positive reinforcement from her mother. Her mother did not believe in Emily because she did not believe in herself yet.
On stage, I anticipated third place, but was once again stunned when I placed second. This whole experience was life changing. Working for the National FFA Convention, I developed a work ethic to stick to something, and to do my best, even if it seems impossible. I also gained communication skills, and the ability to work outside my comfort zone. Even now it is hard for me to interact with others, but this accomplishment taught me that I can do hard things and I can communicate effectively. I learned how to perform research and express my findings. This experience was also very valuable for it directed me to my career path. It opened up doors as to my abilities, and gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams without fear. It taught me that failures happen, but enduring effort will turn failure into success. In my interviews, I learned that complete honesty is far better than false cover-ups. I became the person I am now because I was blessed with the experience. This project for some may be seen as a great award, but for me it's an invaluable occurrence which had more life skills and experience than a piece of paper can ever
Point of view can drastically change a novel in the way that it is presented and perceived. In the novel The Crown by Kiera Cass, Eadlyn, the main character tells the story through the first person point of view. Her point of view also affects her emotions, and throughout this story her emotions directly affects what she believes, what she does, and how the story comes out. Similarly emotions and point of view also affect what people believe and do.
Paradis finished calling the names and I was ushered off stage by Mrs. Nagri, the very math teacher with whom I had been working with for months. I was no longer recognized as a smart child who had participated in a demanding contest, rather, I was regarded as a child who did not have the mathematical capability that our school looked for in its children. As I watched from the side, the other students received awards, the best of which was a gold medal and trophy for my neighbor Shrey Patel, who had placed first in the competition within our school. All the kids remaining on stage had also qualified for the national event - an achievement which no one was going to forget for a long time. I watched my parents silently walk out of the gym, heads hung down, and I knew that they had higher hopes for me walking into the
I am sitting down for an interview at Pizza Hut, my very first job ever i'm so excited because i had never had a job when i was younger. I'm all dressed up nice for i because i really want this job. The first question the boss asked
My hands get clammy and emotions are running wild. When they call my team we all run out frantically and realize there's one last chance with this team, one last chance with this routine, some athletes final shot at the state championship! The lights gleam bright and it is time to do my job and put faith in my team to do the same. Two minutes and thirty seconds go by and that's the end of it all… walking off the mat knowing I did the best I can do and the rest is in the judge's hands. Sitting at awards, waiting desperately as they call each team third, second, and first place goes to Carrollton high school! The drop of my stomach and the tears that ran down my face. I was so shocked all the fame and victory made all the hard work worth
There was something about gambling that you could not resist.” “There was suspense, the feeling that the future was already planned.” In these two stories introduced you will soon see the similarities in style the authors’ share. In “A soldier for the crown” by Charles Johnson, Titus, Caesar and Alexander Freeman were slaves belonging to General Selby somewhere during 1784. They were gamblers who bet on any and everything and wished upon the chance to board to the Revolutionary War. Dorothy (also known as Alexander) was opted to change her identity to classify as male in order to fight. “The Black Cat” by Edgar Allan Poe has a character (the narrator) who is a guy that adores pets and gets a cat by the name of Pluto. He ends up getting married
While we headed down to the mat, I could see all the other cheerleaders nervous as can be. Because all the teams in the arena had to go down on the mat, it was very crowded and hot. When my team found a spot on the mat, we danced like animals along with the music that was playing. After all the teams got on the floor, we all sat down and listened quietly while we heard the announcer announce the awards. Because of all the teams in each division, the announcer only announced the top three so it will go faster. After a while, it finally got to the division that my team was in. As we bow our heads and hold each other's hand tightly, we listen carefully. As each name was called, I got more and more nervous. After the last team name was called we let go of each other’s hand and looked around and cheered for everyone who did make it in the top three. Even though we didn’t make the top three, we were still excited for the other
In the days leading up to her graduation, she was so excited about receiving her diploma for her academic accomplishments, even though she hasn’t accomplished a lot in life by experiencing a little bit of it. She felt like the birthday girl with her pretty dress, beautiful hair, and the presents she received from Uncle Willie and her mother. She felt like it w...
I went to my sisters first meet with the Lincoln against Roosevelt, The second i walked into the building, all these feelings came rushing back. Hearing the sound of the horn, the roar of the crowd as the swimmers hit the water, The look on the swimmers faces when they realized their hardwork has paid off. After the meet I talked to my sister.\
Nathan also commented that I was really good at articulating the responses to the questions. Therefore I was amazed by the comments I received from the interviewer and the observers. I felt like I could have been even better if I overcame my
On June 13th, I participated in a Young Debaters Program with other students from our school competing against various junior high schools in a debate contest. I arrived too early, was wearing a far too casual dress, and was walking in extremely painful shoes. I had butterflies in my stomach and I felt terrible. The debate was absolutely awful, but the experiences I had with my friends during and after the debate were some of the most memorable occurrences of my 7th grade year.
