Mercédès Contrast of Madame de Villefort
Love and hate are most common and basic traits that portray characters in novels. Hate is strong characteristic to have because it can bring out the worst qualities out of person those who are considered loving people. Love is quality that describe as passion or affection for others.In the Count of Monte Cristo Mercédès and Madame De Villefort have these qualities and they are both very different. They are very different because Mercédès is beautiful loving women and Madame De Villefort is a hateful woman who is jealousy and greedy.
The daughter of a fisherman Mercédès is considered to be faithful and beautiful. She is supposed to marry Edmond Dantès, but on the wedding day he was arrested and taken away from her. Mercédès is quite distraught when her true love Edmond Dantès is taken from her. Even when he seems to disappear Mercédès tries to care for the father of Dantès in his absent. Mercédès kindness, “Mercédès is at present one of the grandest ladies in Paris. At first she was utterly overcome by the blow by which had robbed her of her Edmond. I have already told you how she importuned Villefort with entreaties, and have also touched upon her devoted care for Dantès’ father”(107). Mercédès succumbs and marries Fernand after Dantès’ father passes away. Even though she is now married to Fernand, she never stopped loving Dantès. While married to Fernand she is quite unhappy even though she has become educated and distinguished woman, “If crowns were bestowed upon beauty and intelligence, Mercédès would now be a queen. Her Fortune was growing, and she grew with it. She learned drawing, music, everything. Personally I think she did all this simply to distract her mind, and help her forg...

...uxury life she is not happy with that because she does not have her true love Edmond Dantès. Madame De Villefort is trying to obtain all this fortune that Valentine will receive but in the end she gets nothing. Mercédès is the type of person who will do everything make sure others are taking care of while Madame only cares for herself.
Greed, Jealousy, and hate are qualities that Madame De Villefort is what makes her different from the Beautiful loving Mercédès. Love and hate traits that extremely differ from each other. People that are hateful will do anything to obtain what they desire and in the end it will come back to haunt them. While those who are loving people may no always get what they desire, but the reward at the end will be worth it.
