Mercédès Contrast of Madame de Villefort
Love and hate are most common and basic traits that portray characters in novels. Hate is strong characteristic to have because it can bring out the worst qualities out of person those who are considered loving people. Love is quality that describe as passion or affection for others.In the Count of Monte Cristo Mercédès and Madame De Villefort have these qualities and they are both very different. They are very different because Mercédès is beautiful loving women and Madame De Villefort is a hateful woman who is jealousy and greedy.
The daughter of a fisherman Mercédès is considered to be faithful and beautiful. She is supposed to marry Edmond Dantès, but on the wedding day he was arrested and taken away from her. Mercédès is quite distraught when her true love Edmond Dantès is taken from her. Even when he seems to disappear Mercédès tries to care for the father of Dantès in his absent. Mercédès kindness, “Mercédès is at present one of the grandest ladies in Paris. At first she was utterly overcome by the blow by which had robbed her of her Edmond. I have already told you how she importuned Villefort with entreaties, and have also touched upon her devoted care for Dantès’ father”(107). Mercédès succumbs and marries Fernand after Dantès’ father passes away. Even though she is now married to Fernand, she never stopped loving Dantès. While married to Fernand she is quite unhappy even though she has become educated and distinguished woman, “If crowns were bestowed upon beauty and intelligence, Mercédès would now be a queen. Madame De Villefort is trying to obtain all this fortune that Valentine will receive but in the end she gets nothing. Mercédès is the type of person who will do everything make sure others are taking care of while Madame only cares for herself.
Greed, Jealousy, and hate are qualities that Madame De Villefort is what makes her different from the Beautiful loving Mercédès. Love and hate traits that extremely differ from each other. People that are hateful will do anything to obtain what they desire and in the end it will come back to haunt them. While those who are loving people may no always get what they desire, but the reward at the end will be worth it.

The Pacific coast port city of San Francisco, California provides a distinctively mysterious backdrop in Dashiell Hammett’s The Maltese Falcon. Unlike many other detective stories that are anchored in well-known metropolises such as Los Angeles or New York City, Hammett opted to place the events of his text in the lesser-known, yet similarly exotic cultural confines of San Francisco. Hammett used his own intricate knowledge of the San Francisco Bay Area - coupled with details collected during a stint as a detective for the now defunct Pinkerton Agency - to craft a distinctive brand of detective fiction that thrived on such an original setting (Paul 93). By examining the setting of 1920’s San Francisco in The Maltese Falcon, it becomes apparent that one of Hammett’s literary strengths was his exceptional ability to intertwine non-fictional places with a fictional plot and characters in order to produce a logical and exceedingly believable detective mystery.
	The story of Edmond Dantes starts out as him being a sailor, aboard the Pharaon; he’s soon to become captain of the ship. Monsieur Morrel is the name of the owner of the Pharaon and a great friend of Dantes. He treats Edmond with great respect. There’s also a little special lady in Dantes life, the beautiful and wonderful Mercedes. A dream job and a dream wife, who could possibly want more?
Alexandre Dumas is the author of the adventurous love story The Count of Monte Cristo, used both internal and external conflicts along with imagery. These literary elements enhanced the theme that revenge can drive a man to do the unthinkable. Dumas used these elements to tell the story of France’s history. His bestselling novels are not deep but have spectacular adventure, action, and larger-than-life-characters.

The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne has introduced a character that has been judged harshly. Because, she has been misinformed of her husband’s death; therefore, she was greave and had sought comfort resulting in a baby from the lover whom gave her comfort. When her secret had been discovered she was isolated for committing a treacherous crime of adultery, as one of her punishments she was forced to wear an A on her chest. The central characters, setting, and tone of the story help create the central idea of the psychological and internal desires of a woman. Through the view of the central characters it is established that the lawyer’s wife wants more than her average day and is searching for more to life than the daily routine of a house wife. Jean Varin is believed to be the desire she is looking for; however, she is not fulfilled or happy with the outcome of her choices. The setting and the tone reveal the psychological need for the wife to have an adventurous, lavish, and opulent lifestyle that she feels can only be achieved in Paris.

Wait and Hope is the theme and the concluding phrase of "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexander Dumas, and it is a characteristic, that as the theme, is prominently displayed throughout the novel, and is especially noticeable in multiple specific characters. Mercedes brought this out of herself in her dealings with Dantes. She had hope that he would return to her and when, eventually, that hope failed her she regained it in time to hope for forgiveness and reconciliation in heaven, which specifically demonstrated an ability to wait throughout her hopes. One Hundred Years of Solitude reflects the insanity and insomnia stage of solitude of Garcia Marquez life as a child and writer. Garcia Marquez written characters has different functions to maintain magic realism the flow of the text. The character Ursula represents Garcia Marquez wife that has to maintain sanity and bills in the household until he is able write a bestseller book. In the novel, One Hundred Years of Solitude, a character analysis reveals Ursula Iguaran as a person that maintained structure, is courageous, and domineering.

Marital discord, arising in general, due to infatuation, lust or affection for a third person, may crop up primarily facilitated by adverse familial, economic or societal conditions that do frequently find their mention in the written word. Some of these concerns like family, marriage, sexuality, society and death, are notably illustrated by the authors, Gustave Flaubert in Madame Bovary and Laura Esquivel in Like Water for Chocolate.
Symbolism is the practice of representing things by symbols. The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, is a book of much symbolism. Set in 16th century New England, the book starts with the public punishment of Hester Prynne, a convicted adulterer. One of the most complex and misunderstood symbols in the book is Hester’s illegitimate daughter, Pearl. Throughout the story, she develops into a dynamic symbol - one that is always changing. Pearl represents her mother’s punishment, a rose, and the scarlet letter.
