Kashmir, mostly called as Jammu and Kashmir, is an 86,000 square-mile region in North-west India and North-East Pakistan. It is so breathtaking in physical beauty that Mughal emperors considered it an earthly paradise (Pierre Tristam). Kashmir is world famous for its beauty and one of the great Mughal Princes has praised its beauty by calling it a “Paradise on Earth”. The Valley of Kashmir is full of mountains, blossoms of pinks, whites, yellows, and full of flowers and lush greenery (Kashmir Online). Srinagar is the summer capital and Jammu is the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Kashmir has been one of the longest running disputes between India and Pakistan. This dispute over Jammu and Kashmir began after both India and Pakistan gained independence from the British in August 15, 1947. This research paper will go over the conflict in Jammu and Kashmir and the possible solutions. The paper will also go over if the United States should get involved or not and the positive and negative effects of all the options. The conflict in Jammu and Kashmir is an important dispute because this affects the industrial development and safety of both countries and affects other countries too. The United States should not get involved because India and Pakistan does not want any other country involved in their dispute and this can affect the India- U.S. relationship.
The Kashmir conflict is a territorial dispute that has been going on from 1947 between India and Pakistan over the control of the Kashmir region. It is not just the responsibility of the United States to keep peace, but the responsibility of everyone. Everyone should try to solve this issue which is turning out to be one of the bloodiest and longest issues in the world. This issue has gone on for six decades and has gone far enough. India and Pakistan have responsibility on their shoulders to keep this part of the world peaceful and prosperous. This is only possible when both major actors in south Asia are good friends and respect each other’s sovereignty and integrity. India and Pakistan should solve their issue by themselves without involving others. Everyone should believe that they can do it.
