The colonists were justified in resisting the British policies after the French and Indian War. The revolts that lead to the Revolutionary War were necessary. The colonies were justified in their revolt because they had no representation in Parliament. This led to the phrase “no taxation without representation” which meant that the colonist found it unjust that they went from no tax to high tax without having any say in Parliament. The taxes that were put in place were not only high compared to the no taxes the colonists had payed before, but because of the Tea, Stamp, and Sugar Acts, the taxes were on everyday items like tea; paper products; and sugar products. This angered the colonists because the new tax was not only high, but very common:
