“Christian era”(eNotes). This is almost kind of a showing what is left of the world after all the tragedy happened in the world and people starting to become individuals. Life before and after the first world war; before the wars people’s lives were very controlled and could not say very much without putting there lives or families endanger from the law depending on where they lived. Then people started to have revolution to get rid of the old government systems in the area they lived in since the people were not happy with what the powers were doing or starving many of the places populations with high taxes so they ended up not having any money or food while the high powers have a wonderful life off of the people of their country. Modernism was the first type of style of writing to leave the normal writing stand point and be on a relatable level even know the works were fictional they have something that everyone can relate with, making the reader feel that the story was individuality written for them. The first time the rules of writing were broken without any major problems caused by the writing. In every reading there is a privilege that is given to the main characters of the stories or poems it is almost like the main person can see the future and say that will happen for sure telling the other characters that if you follow me or I know what your about to do to me. In the “Diary of a Madman” the main character thinks that everyones out to get him and the reason they locked him up is so they can fatten him up for their meal one day since he says the people look at him funny even goes to the point of accusing one of the dogs around him even has a plan to eat him. When the doctor comes in and he says that they are just checking on him to see when he will be ready to eat. The reason these are a problem is because even know in that part of the world they may have eaten people back in the day, this story is showing that how bad someone could be mentally messed up thinking his family and people around him want to eat him. In reality I believe if this was someone who was really mad thinking people are going to eat him that he may have some physical problems with is body, not until reasonably it was ok to have a mentally retarded family member. However even in today’s world people look at people funny if they have some kind of disability, we are just more excepting of people now, it does not mess with their so called society standing anymore.     Igor Stravinsky makes for a first-class example of differences and similarities between neoclassicism and modernism. Modernism is defined as “A term used in music to denote a multi-faceted but distinct and continuous tradition within 20th-century composition”1, while neoclassicism may be defined as “A movement of style in the works of certain 20th-century composers, who, particularly during the period between the two world wars, revived the balanced forms and clearly perceptible thematic processes of earlier styles to replace what were, to them, the increasingly exaggerated gestures and formlessness of late Romanticism”2 By not only comparing his works to others but within his own body of work the two movements can be better distinguished. Stravinsky composed in both styles throughout his musical career making his works not only a prime example but a map for the transition between periods/movements, thus giving distinctness to the movements. Stravinsky “cultivated a flexible and reciprocal association with his changing environment. While consistently producing work which transformed the sensibilities of those who heard it, he himself continuously allowed his own sensibilities to be fed, even transformed, by the music and music-making of others.”3 By comparing and contrasting the works of Stravinsky with not only his own works, but with his contemporary's of the early 20th century, the division and resemblances between neoclassicism and modernism can be thoroughly observed.
