The Cold War was a political uprising between the Soviet Union and the United States shortly after World War 2. Children all over the world are given this information and that can only help them. The Cold War is comparable to The Butter Battle Book so that children may be exposed to the world they live in.

The Cold War was a political tension between the Soviet Union and the United States and its allies that included President Harry S. Truman, the Iron Curtain, and the developments of the hydrogen and atomic bombs. In the Cold War, the casualties in this so cold war were extremely low. In the story, the general for the Yooks is a hard working commander that will do whatever it takes for his people to prosper. The general would give a "twitch with [his] tough-tufted prickly snick-berry switch,"(Seuss, 1984) if any Zook would try to invade. The general proves himself to the reader as a well put together leader who only wants the best for his people. He proves himself as a person people can trust. An event told in the story is the division of people exemplified through the wall. Yooks and Zooks are divided people who are separated by how one thinks they should or should not eat their bread. This heated tension turns into a rivalry that people are willing to go to war for these ideas. The Yooks "can't trust a Zook who spreads bread underneath! Every Zook must be watched! He has kinks in his soul!"(Seuss, 1984) The hatred shown in the quote intensifies the rivalry that lead to a war. The last important issue addressed in the story is the bitsy big-boy bomeroo. The bitsy big boy bomeroo is a bomb used to address the opposing nation as a scare tactic to force them to back off. Each nation has one with the capability of wiping out the entire civilization on both sides.The bitsy big-boy bomeroo was supposed to "blow all those Zooks clear to sal-ma-goo."(Seuss, 1984) With all that firepower in their arsenal, they had to be careful for they knew the Zooks also had the weapon of mass destruction. Both countries threatening each other waiting to see who will drop it
