Have you ever moved to a new place far from your friends and you felt very lonely and will do anything to have a friend? The Boy In the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne tells a story about a 9 year old boy, Bruno, who moves from his town into the middle of nowhere and is very lonely. Bruno wants a friend but there are no houses in sight, only a big camp that has lots of kids and adults wearing striped pajamas. Bruno goes exploring and finds a kid his age but he is on the other side of the fence, so in the end he goes into the camp and finds out what the camp really is. John Boyne uses Bruno’s loneliness, friendliness, and his sense of adventure to show how friendship can keep someone happy when in an unfamiliar place. Friendliness is shown when Bruno and Shmuel first meet because they realize that they have the same birthday and have much in common. For example, on page 109 Shmuel says “Because my birthday is April the fifteenth too... there may be dozens of Shmuel's on this side of the fence but I don’t think that I’ve ever met anyone …show more content…

For example he is always exploring and finding a way to entertain himself. For instance he first finds Shmuel when he goes exploring for friends and to look around the area. On page 104 it says “The walk along the fence took Bruno a lot longer than he expected; it seemed to stretch on and on for several miles ”. It is clear that Bruno likes to go exploring because he is very persistent to keep going on for more that 7 miles. In another event he goes exploring to help Shmuel look for his father in the camp but the exploring ends with a terrible consequence. 209 it says “Your right, lets start looking” this shows his adventurous when going into a new place. Therefore Bruno likes to entertain himself and has a strong sense of adventure but in the end there might be a terrible
