Like a monolith in a monsoon, I stood my ground. Even as children's cleats tore up the damp soil around me and a thick rubber ball whizzed by directly overhead, I remained unmoved. As if a world away, a man could be faintly heard shouting “Goal!”, followed by a crowd of zealous parents shrieking in both delight and rage. As the turmoil around me ensued, I noticed none of it. My attention was fully enthralled on what lay below. As my bewildered parents watched from the stands, I began to crouch, admiring the shiny jet-black beetle crawling past my feet. This field was a place to enjoy the blissful ignorance of childhood; still, I simply could not resist the overwhelming urge of discovery. Thus begins the first of three chapters in my life: The Boy and the Bugs. For some reason or another, insects captivated me. By age six, I’d amassed a bug collection so extensive that it filled up several shelving units lining the walls of my bedroom (a truly unnerving sight for family friends!). Indeed, my interest was so extreme that for years my bedtime story of choice was an encyclopedia on arthropods. Yet, bugs only offer so much to a deeply curious mind. Unbeknownst to me at the time, my decision to join effectively introduced me to my ultimate passion: modern technology. With the internet at my disposal and the modern machine as my playground, I felt it was my distinct privilege to garner as much computational knowledge as possible. Accordingly, since the day I first joined Runescape, I have composed several websites for local Mattawan businesses, developed a handful of iPhone applications, taught myself two programming languages, and have even instructed an array of my peers on how to compose their own desktop
