Once upon a time in a great castle, there was a princess named Snow White. Who was very happy and contented despite of having a jealous stepmother. Snow White 's beauty was noticeable, her eyes were blue, her lips were red as blood, her hair was black as ebony wood and her skin was white as snow.

Little Snow White 's stepmother was the most beautiful woman in the land. The queen had a magical mirror, which every morning she stood by, and asked, "mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?" The mirror always answered, " you are, my queen". Now, she knew for sure that she was the only beautiful women in the world. However, when Snow White turned seven years old, everyone in the kingdom were mesmerized by her beauty. She surpassed even the queen 's beauty. One morning, the queen asked the mirror once again, "mirror, mirror in the wall, who is the fairest of them all?" In her mind, she blamed Snow White that she was no longer the most beautiful in the land. One day, she her hatred and jealousy took over; she thought of getting rid of Snow White forever. However, she had an epiphany, and then, her feelings started to change she realized that Snow White was her stepdaughter. On the day that she married Snow White 's father, she swore that she will be the greatest queen and the greatest stepmother for her. Instead of hating and punishing Snow White for something she didn 't do, the queen thought her how to be strong and to be as great as her. The queens realized that there was nothing wrong with sharing the title of "the fairest in the land". The queen taught Snow White how to be a great leader, how to protect the whole kingdom and how to be a better person. Snow White learned that she can accomplish anything, and be whoever she wanted to be, as long as she put her mind and soul into

This characterization contrasts starkly with the dominant woman who plays the archetype of the evil stepmother. The original mother’s wishes came true as she wished for “a child as white as snow, as red as blood, and as black as the wood of the window frame” (Grimm 249). In this imagery, we are given a color palette that represents a beautiful woman (pale white skin, red rosy cheeks and black ebony hair). Anne Sexton never offers a description of Snow White’s real mother, perhaps showing the reader how it is less important whether the mother is evil or good, but rather how the stepmother and daughter relationship became muddled by the fear the stepmother had to have beauty surpass her own. As Snow White finds herself in the home of the seven dwarfs, she falls asleep and wakes up surrounded by the dwarfs who are interrogating her about her life. It might come as a surprise that these ideals and standards are embedded and have been for centuries in the beloved fairy tales we enjoyed reading as kids. In her analytical essay, “To Spin a Yarn: The Female Voice in Folklore and Fairy Tales”, Karen Rowe argues that fairy tales present “cultural norms which exalt passivity, dependency, and self-sacrifice as a female’s cardinal virtues.” Rowe presents an excellent point, which can be supported by versions of the cult classics, “Cinderella” and “Snow White”. Charles Perrault’s “ The Little Glass Slipper” and the Brothers Grimm’s “ Snow White” exemplify the beliefs that females are supposed to be docile, dependent on the male persona and willing to sacrifice themselves. In many cases, when strong female characters are presented they are always contradicting in these characteristics, thus labeled as villainous. Such is the case of the Cinderella’s stepsisters in Perrault’s “Cinderella” and the stepmother in the Brothers Grimm’s “Snow White.” These female characters face judgment and disapproval when they commit the same acts as male characters. With such messages rooted in our beloved fairy tales it is no wonder that society is rampant with these ideals about women and disapprove of women when they try to break free of this mold.

The dwarves manage to save her the first two times, but they conclude that she is deceased the third time, when she gets a piece poison apple caught in her throat. A prince comes along one day and falls in love with the unconscious beauty. He then proceeds to take the corpse everywhere he goes, referring to her body as “his dearest possession,” (The Origins of Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty" 3). The piece of apple is dislodged waking the princess, and she falls in love with the prince. At their wedding, the queen is forced to put on red-hot iron shoes and dance until she dies.
