The animals have been used as a symbol by our ancestors, such as eagle they used it as a symbol of protection, lion symbol of pride and owl symbol of wisdom and femininity. That the specific animals that our ancestor used as a symbol. This enhanced ours connection with nature. Some individuals used animals for their political ideology, such as oligarchy they used the two-headed lion to symbolized the political system, and the Roman empire used the eagle as a symbol of power and strength. The force of nature influenced humanity; it helped influenced our culture and society. In the book Cole inscribed the animals he carved, dancing animals dance, soaking in the freezing pond and carrying the ancestor rock to help him heal. Each animal he dance has to mean, that will help his feeling and help him be a better person. When Cole first sees the nest above him, he envies the baby birds that someone who loves them the mother bird. The baby birds are the symbol of love and affection that Cole covet but he never let on his life. This is Cole’s first tempered that he can care about something other than himself. After Cole get blitz by a Bear, and during the thunderstorm, Cole watches a mother sparrow with her babies. When the nest has been blown down, he begin learning the meaning of compassion. When he finally stop for rest, he observes the eagles flying over the bay. Cole pull out the knife began carving and shaping the deep cut into the eagle’s head. As he carved, he thought about the eagles and why they were proud and powerful hunter. From this experience watching the eagle and then carving them into wood, Cole decides to empathize with animals he come across, then carve each them a totem
