The history of entrepreneurship has been existing in the United States for decades. During the 1607 during the 19th century, the first Virginia Company sent three ships across the Atlantic and unloaded 109 passengers in Jamestown, Virginia (Gordon 1). They were embarked on a new business enterprise that they hoped would be profitable (Gordon 1). Their business was known as a joint-stock company that allowed people to invest in enterprises without running into the risk of losing everything if there business did not succeed (Gordon 1). Later in life, the Virginia Company failed to become successful by making every mistake they could make which caused them to go broke and most entrepreneurs then fail (Gordon 2). Even though there was failure, there were also great people to come along and reinforce Virginia enterprises. The great business leaders who improved Virginia were John Rolfe, Dutch, John Winthrop, Fredrick Tudor, and Henry Flagler to introduce their own careers and people from all over the country supported them (Gordon 2). John Rolfe, John Winthrop, and Dutch were the first people to build their markets that both became known as “money makers”. John Rolfe introduced West Indian in 1612, John Winthrop was known for the importance of iron, and Dutch founded New York City (Gordon 2). Then, Fredric Tudor and Henry Flagler came along and started their new enterprises (Gordon 4). Fredric Tudor was known for the fortunes of ice and sawdust and Henry Flagler was known for his wholesale commodity business that was able to make over $50,000 dollars a year during the time of the Civil War (Gordon 4).
