The Paradox in Animal Farm Practice what you preach or change your speech. This quote depicts the prime reason for the downfall of Animal Farm. In George Orwell’s novel the animals collectively agree that humans are the enemies. As the novel commenced it was evident animals held a strong hatred towards humans since they felt entirely oppressed by them hence the decision to rebel. Then there was a creation of seven commandments, “unalterable” laws the animals were to live by. Though there is one change in particular which depicts the true downfall of animal farm. What was once known as “‘four legs good, two legs bad’’ animals being the four legged and humans being two legged, was changed and the animals now told to understand and abide ‘‘four legs good, two legs better’”. There was many scenes where there was a failure to follow the commandments. Such as sleeping in a bed, drinking alcohol, and exclusively stating no animal shall kill any other….without cause. Yet the most significant change would have to be of the first two commandments. It is rather astonishing that the animals now possess characteristics of humans when they despised them and began the rebellion due to the humans. Later on in the novel the pig’s trade with humans, drink with humans, and worst of all walk on two legs like human. The alterations to the commandments and the changes in behavior all contribute to the major downfall of Animal Farm. The animals became their enemy, they represented a human in every send of the word. Though the rebellion was in hopes of creating a future without human exploitation, they failed to create universal equality.
