The American Revolution: Disestablishment Of The Anglican Church

385 Words1 Page

The American Revolution was the event where 13 of Great Britain’s North American colonies acquired independence from Great Britain and went on to form the United States of America. In 1776, America declared its independence and in 1783, Britain accepted America’s independence. The American Revolution brought about change, because the rights, class structure and government in the colonies differed greatly from those in Great Britain. One major result of the American Revolution was the disestablishment of the Anglican Church. Instead of putting another church in its place, Virginia passed a law ensuring religious freedom. The approval of the federal Constitution was the first step in accepting that a man’s religion was not the government’s business.
