Texting and driving has become the new D.U.I meaning (driving under the influence) in society today is similar to driving under the influence. Both teenagers and adults have taken upon themselves to text while driving to possibly cause accidents and death. Prevention is a must texting and driving can cause death to society. Choosing to turn off your phone can prevent such tragedy. A study stated by FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski stated that ‘’currently there is no national ban on texting or using a wireless phone while driving, but a number of states have passed laws banning texting or wireless phones or requiring hands-free use of wireless phones while driving.’’ Meaning it may be allowed but it is being used as a law to prevent possible accidents. Driving is a privilege some people see it as having the right to go where you need to go. But it’s just like riding a bike or even playing a sport there are rules. The rule is to prevent and to keep you and others safe but now texting and driving and gadgets like iPods and GPS devices are a public safety epidemic. People are getting hurt and most people don’t even know the danger in which using a device while driving can cause. On May 2, 2013 the senate passed a law in Florida charging thirty dollars if stopped by the cops for the first time. The second time stopped by the cops you will get six points on your driver’s license which can cause your insurance to increase. This was done so that more people will keep safety and mind and stop the use of gadgets like iPods and GPS devices. The government benefits our society in many ways. All branches of the government protect and provide for our society. The government provides great educational systems in different parts of the world.
