Teenage Suicide
Suicide is the act of a human being purposely causing his or her own death. Many teenagers commit suicide and there are many reasons why. Most teenagers may think suicide is an easy way out and a way of trying to break away from their feelings because they can’t handle the pain that they are dealt with. There are many mixed feelings of these teens, such as depression, and there are many teenagers that committed suicide that could have been prevented. Teenage suicide is a growing event taking part in today’s society and teenagers take their own life because of the many pressures, stresses, bullying, and many other things they are faced with.

Many teens get demands that they have to follow from their family and also burdens that they put on themselves. The teenager, their parents, their friends and school can all be blamed for teenage suicides. The teenager may feel traumatized at school or overwhelmed with schoolwork and have a lack of understanding. They may also feel stressed about maintaining high grades and keeping up with other students and friends. “Drastic changes in a teenager’s life (such as death of parent, firing from a job, rejection by a team or school) also precipitate stress.” (Wodarski, Harris 78). According to The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, “most teens experience more stress when they perceive a situation as dangerous, difficult, or painful and they do not have the resources to cope.” Some teens become overloaded with stress. When it happens, poorly managed stress can lead to anxiety, withdrawal, aggression, physical illness, or poor coping skills and the use of drugs and/or alcohol.
