Technology In The 90s

The 90s were the period that set commercial use of desktop computers in to full blown action, and brought the market for hard disk drives into an upward spiral. Not only was this a technological revolution, but it was sort of the period where technologies in at least a storage device sense, stopped evolving as fast. For the most part, we still use advanced versions of things that were created then (or in years prior) today, with a lot of them disappearing over time. Things such as optical drives and floppy drives sort of phased their ways out in the late 90s, and ushered in an era of improved hard disk drives (mainly mechanical), in which we continue to use now (Memory). Now the 2000s, in my opinion, brought more in terms of new technologies than the 90s did, but also once again, the improvement of technologies that had already existed. Some of the biggest storage device inventions came in the 2000s, with things like the USB, Blu-ray discs, Dropbox, and cloud storage, making their debuts (Memory). These technologies, like I had said earlier, are the standards of what we use today, and will be touched on much later when we talk about the future of storage technologies. I will also jump back into talking about the 2010s later as well, as that is the most relevant to us today. This way I will be able to talk about some of the upcoming things and give some details on current technologies that we have.
