My job as a teacher assistant at Cross Creek Elementary School has many components. I spend two hours at the elementary school a day for five days a week. I work in a fourth grade class that teaches three subjects. These subjects are math, science, and social studies. I help assist my teacher with several tasks in the classroom during this time there.
One of my main tasks is supervising the students whenever the teacher needs to leave the room to perform a task. I also help with grading students work while they are taking assessments, or in other spare time. Another thing is filing papers to use for Honeybee Folders at the end of the week, which contain graded assignments and a weekly newsletter. Lastly, I assist by running copies of assignments
I help to select new items for the classroom and muscle room and rearrange the setup. On Fridays the morning and afternoon teachers along with all the student teachers meet to discuss what has been going on in the classroom and what is working out well and what needs to be changed. For example we recently change the setup of our lunch table from 2 long tables to 3 separate tables to facilitate better conversations during meals. We also have introduced dinosaur books, puzzles, block mates and toys after we noticed a class wide interest in them. My experience an educational assistant has been both challenging and rewarding. For example, Some students were certainly challenging to work with as they gave off a hue of discomfort and disinterest. During one class period, I was tasked with helping a student finish his Algebra assignment that required him to solve for variables on a worksheet. The student did not understand the assignment and was clearly reluctant to complete it, despite already being late to turn it in. I was able to demonstrate patience by spending two whole block periods with the student while working on the assignment until he was able to grasp the concepts being taught. As a resident assistant at Miami University during my undergraduate studies, cultural competency was not only an expected quality of the resident assistant, but it was one of our educational goals as a department. My job was to advise, discuss, and ensure that each individual received the best education possible and felt wanted and safe in our respective communities within our residence halls. I’ve dealt with many students struggling with racial, economic, and cultural differences either with their roommate, a peer, or themselves. I’ve encountered many residents of minority backgrounds within my communities that have maybe felt dissuaded in their academic and social endeavors because of our fairly homogenous community at Miami University. However, it was my job to ensure that all residents within my community felt that their experiences were valid, and to help others and myself appreciate the priceless individual diversity of each resident.

I help teach the kids to play Pokemon TCG which further helps them learn math and reading through a card game. The kids have fun and that is only a small part of my job. With my job I actually helped open the store Yeti Gaming Rebel Division Sophomore year. It was a lot of hard work to do this but, my father and stepmother supported and even helped out themselves. It was hard work and I wanted to give up so much but, I prevailed and done it myself. Some of my strengths is that I am a huge people person. I have no problem talking to people at all and I think that is a big deal when it comes to teaching. If you don’t know how to talk to the students how are you going to teach. You have to learn about your students and conform to how they are used to being taught but you will be putting your own twist on it. It is so crazy just what a simple conversation with a student can reveal about them and something about their life. In conclusion, I just want to change the world. I want to change the minds of younger people not matter if they are Republican or Democrat, Christian or Atheist, and so on. I want to make them think. I want them to make the world better just like I want

Overall my experience of being in Lingleville ISD was a great experience that allowed me to learn a lot not only about the students in the classroom, but also helped me learn a lot about myself. Going in to this classroom I expected to only learn things about classroom management and maybe a few strategies. After spending a few days in this room I learned many other things. I did learn about classroom management but I also learned about content, strategies, organization, lesson planning, and inclusion adaptations. I learned that an inclusion special education student can really thrive being in a mainstream classroom, not only academically but also socially. Coming into this class, I figured we would learn about how to handle different kinds of situations from a teacher’s standpoint. As it turns out, the class is much more than just that. I figured there would be group discussions consisting of some controversial issues, but I had no idea how the course would make me feel as a person and as a future educator. So far, this class has brought to light the incredibly difficult decisions I will have to make as a teacher. Not only will those decisions affect the child and parents of that child at hand, but myself as well.
A very important part of the teachers role is to monitor learners performances and keep records such as lessons plans, attendances, punctuality, assessments, achievements and learners development. With all that information the teacher will find easier to get to know the students properly and adopt different strategies that ensure successful learning for all. Being a teacher is a very challenging and honourable profession.
