Tabby's Star Hypothesis

Many people wonder what and who else is out there in space. It’s a question many people ask, but few answer. It is something humans have devoted their lives to. KIC 8462852(Tabby's Star) is one of the most mysterious stars in the universe, one that has the scientific community confused about its behavior.
KIC 8462852 was first sighted using Kepler in 2011 by Tabetha Boyajian and a team of citizen scientists working on the Planet Hunters project. Then they spotted something odd. At first they didn’t know what to do, the data looked unbelievable, so they took the data to the scientists. The data was good. The star had seen dips in light by up to twenty-two percent. The largest planet in our solar system causes a drop in light of one percent. What ever …show more content…

This would have to take millions of huge comets to cause a drop in light by that much which is astounding!
There are hypotheses that are on the right track but still far from a full explanation. One such hypothesis is the star still has the debris from when it was formed. But that doesn't add up. The dust and debris clears away after time and Tabby’s Star doesn’t have any evidence of being young. Also, if there was a cloud of dust it would show up on the images they observe the star with. The black hole theory is very much out of the picture as a black hole would actually brighten the light coming from Tabby's Star
Additionally, there is the alien hypothesis. It states that a super intelligent technologically advanced civilization built a object known as a Dyson Sphere which is used to drain energy from the star it is built around to power this civilization's energy needs which would actually explain both the faster dimming over time and the blocking of light by a massive object. However a Dyson Sphere would be unlikely because of no solid evidence of alien life yet, although it is odd that SETI would pay such close
