The killing of the albatross by the ancient mariner symbolizes our relationship with God and how we as humans can sever our relationship with God. God is like the albatross; he looks to lead our path in life so that we do not have to encounter the trials and tribulations that the mariner had to go through. He wants to lead us down the right path and have an everlasting bond with him. When the ancient mariner killed the albatross is resembles God’s people sinning and pulling away from God. The Mariner’s interest in the wedding guest helps to show this man that he should change his ways. What ways in which the wedding guest needs to change are not specified, but the mariner did not need to know at that point what it was because he knows when someone needs to hear his testimony to inspire their lives. At first the wedding guest did not want to hear and would not listen to the old man, but the longer the man continued to talk the story of the ancient mariner softened the hardened heart of the wedding guest. The wedding guest is so moved by the speech and as a result he has to leave and never enters the wedding. The testimony of the ancient mariner to the wedding guest is what God wants from his people. The old man learned so many life lessons from his past and once he gained his appreciation for nature, he felt that his story needed to be told. God wants us to tell our story to others to influence them to make the correct choices in life and
