In “The Boy who Dared” the author, Susan Campbell has presented the story in third person point-of-view. Helmuth’s account is not first-hand and so the author had relied on eyewitness accounts. The accounts are well-detailed as she was able to interview many survivors. Her depiction is the best presentation and captures his personality and bravery in a commendable manner.
“The Boy who dared” is an inspirational work based on real life events of a German citizen in the ripe years of his life. In the story, Susan Campbell has described the actions and the life of Helmuth in a very vivid manner. Her manner of expressing the history of a courageous and rebellious man in such an awe-inspiring way is an example in itself.

“The Boy who Dared” depicts Helmuth as an intuitive young man and has a great instinct about right and wrong. He was not entirely contended with Hitler’s orders and restrictions. His discovery of Hitler’s illicit actions fueled his anger until he comes up with the idea of producing pamphlets and flyers detailing the things he learnt from the radio. His courage at this point was laudable.
The story acknowledges the lessons of life while it describes the passing of Helmuth’s life. One of such messages is:
“The worst experience can bring out a person's deepest strength.”
