Susan B. Anthony joined and participated in the women's right movement in 1852. She spoke about women's rights and suffrage and briefly talked about slavery. She traveled around the world speaking out about these things. She helped women have a voice, and she influenced colleges to allow girls to attend. She was elected president of the Rochester branch of the daughters of temperance, The daughters of temperance was a group that supported abstention from alcohol. She was a female who was president of a famous organization, This gave women confidence and inspired them. We now have women who vote, they work as lawyers and judges and all the things that men had the right to do that women did not. All this happened because of her family's love
Susan B. Anthony believed that women should have the same rights as men. She fought for this right in many different ways, but she is most famous for showing civil disobedience by voting illegally. Unfortunately, Anthony fought all her life for women’s rights, but her dreams were not fulfilled until 14 years after she died (“Susan” Bio).
Despite the law she began to travel and lecture across the nation for the women's right to vote. She also campaigned for the abolition of slavery, the right for women to own their own property and retain their earnings, and she advocated for women's labor organizations.

Social movements refer to informal groups of people who focus on either political or social issues. The goal of the social movement is to change things in society, to refuse to go along with the norm, and to undo a social change. For example, the Women’s Rights Movement that began in the 1840s was geared towards getting women more equality in relation to political, social, and economic status in society (Foner). Along with this, women gained a louder voice to speak out about what they wanted to change and implemented the change. Prior to the Women’s Rights Movement, women were often timid, compliant, obedient, and mistreated. After the 1920s, a movement towards more equality was shifted in society views, however not all were convinced or changed by the new ideas of women. Although women began to get increased rights, the typical gender roles, which they were expected to follow did not loosely lesson. Women still found themselves doing the same gender roles, house roles, and family roles even after the 1920s. It was not until the 1960s when the Feminist movement began (Foner). The literary piece is “Why I Want a Wife” by Judy Brady and the goal of the Feminist Movement was to create new meanings and realities for women in terms of education, empowerment, occupation, sexual identity, art, and societal roles. Although it was a long road coming for them, they were able to achieve the rights they deserved. Women struggled for equality rights to men but primarily their rights as a person. Since the 1960s women’s rights had significantly changed, they had to work hard for the rights that they have in the present day. Females across the nation started speaking out against gender inequality, divorce, and abortion. This uprising coincided with the Women’s Movement. Through the Royal Commission on the status of women they were able to gain equality rights and they were able to have access to legal abortions through the Charter Rights of Freedom and obtain no-fault divorce through the Divorce Act of 1986.
Susan Brownell Anthony, being an abolitionist, educational reformer, labor activist, and organizer for woman suffrage, used her intellectual and confident mind to fight for parity. Anthony fought for women through campaigning for women’s rights as well as a suffragist for many around the nation. Upon meeting Elizabeth Cady Stanton she became immersed in the women's rights movement, dedicating her life to obtaining equal rights for all. Many men pursued Susan but she never married, she did not want to be "owned" by a man. Instead she chose to dedicate her entire life to this cause.

Women were supposed to be seen and not heard but she didn’t do that. Anthony went against the tide and fought for what she believed in and stayed true to herself. She didn’t stay at home making food and taking care of children instead she traveled giving speeches around the country on women’s suffrage and other issues.
