The use of piano in Dali’s film is another form of surrealism since the surrealist associated the piano with death. The rotting donkeys refer to past children’s tales. He has been using this image for rotting donkeys in most of his works of art but in this particular case, the donkey is draped over a piano and another soar high above it. The afore-discussed is used to show death and resurrection, which is a motif of putrefying as is used as a transformative process in the world of mythology, putrefaction is divine and magical. The bandit is in possession of a rifle a sign of battle he may have endured. The weary bandit encounters a group of priests that seem to be chanting liturgy from the books in their laps. Salvador employing surrealism to show antisocial behavior with both the priests and the bandit portrayed as castaways. The bandit treks to a beat-up old hut where we a group of hungry, weakened fellow bandits inhabit. He finds two bandits at the center of the hut in a sort of contest with their pitchforks raised signifying conflict and the use of violence to resolve disputes as both bandits confront each other. The bandits are informed of an impending attack and mobilize to march towards the Majorcans under their leader, but all the bandits fall back due to the scorching sun. A man is seen to dust himself near a restaurant with people having their meals and this annoys them. The scene of buildings being brought down through explosions shows the use of irony in the surrealism of the golden city, but instead, everything is falling apart. Dali shows the landmarks of Rome then takes us to the scene of a man kicking a violin breaking it into pieces adding on to the irony of the golden city that breaks the desires of a man making him give up. The film returns us back to the young man now being escorted in handcuffs and he sees a woman’s hand on a hand in a poster that is revealed a real hand attempting to finger bang a hole. The man is angry that his dream is interrupted this is Dali’s attempt at surrealism showing the interruptions of the lover from the society now the law.
