In the film about the food corporations in our society today the term power elite can be used to describe the major food industry corporations almost precisely. Today the food we eat on a day to day basis can almost always be traced back to a corporation and quite possibly one of the major companies in our country. The Malthus Theorem is an observation made that explains that food supply in our world increases in a steady manner while our population increases in an exponential manner. In the film we see a scene where it talks about how our worldwide food systems cannot support the demand that is called for. This has resulted in violence around the world all stemming back to a shortage in food supply. In our society today we strive for efficiency to control the demand that we have for food, to do this we grow a limited number of crops and have these crops grown by a limited number of companies in order to make it more efficient to meet up with the demand. A major drawback to this is that our agricultural sector of the world is heavily dependent on many things in order to stay successful. A stress applied to this system can cause huge problems. This is shown when oil prices spiked and groceries also spiked as well due to our food industry being dependent upon that product to run efficiently. There has been many food riots around the world due to a shortage of food. The food has become short because we are struggling to sustain the level of food needed to meet the demands of our explosive population growth. This is a major problem today because if it continues to go in this direction we will no longer be able to support the needs by our population which can result in untold amounts of turmoil in our country.
