“Eyes on the Prize” The American Dream is something that does not catch most people’s attention. The dream started with Martin Luther King Jr., a man who wanted his kind to be treated fairly equal as others. We all have something to fight for and in the eyes of these great people the fight was a tremendous one. The people had their eyes on the prize which focused on segregation, equality, and freedom. “Reach high, for the stars lie hidden in your soul. Dream deep, for every dream precedes the goal” (Pamela Vaull Starr). To begin with, segregation is the action or state of setting someone or something apart from others. When Mr. Luther was fighting for segregation to stop there were plenty obstacles to go through. After fighting slavery and having that be abolished by Abraham Lincoln. He was a white man or color who helped the colored start their courage spark. As years went on and we come forth to the 60’s where a overly brave woman by the name, Rosa Louise McCauley Parks, started a piece of the movement. For the schools that did not accept colored people into their atmosphere they feared something. Some whites always felt like they were in control. So, if the African Americans had even the slightest idea of getting an education and being on equal levels as them, they did not encounter it. That was our threat to them, being able to succeed at the same level as they would.
