Public health is a broad field and always encompasses the study of diseases in populations in all its forms. In her essay, Nancy Krieger (1994) seeks to discuss the origins, characteristics and problems of the “web”. Her discussion also seeks to include the “web’s” hidden reliance upon the structure of biomedical individuality to guide the selection of factors included in the “web”. The methods used in Epidemiology and the web of causation: has anyone seen the spider, involved a thorough secondary research. Krieger study involved examining various contemporary strategies to the epidemiology concept. The contemporary strategies that Krieger dealt with fall under two categories. Rather than understanding the origin and inferences for public health, epidemiology is more apprehensive with the intricately modeling multifaceted association. Moreover, she found that the “web’s” suggestive question has been less addressed by the contemporary approaches. It is clear based on this that student in epidemiology may be lacking in generating epidemiology hypotheses. This is simply because the chances of them being taught study design and data analysis are high. On the other hand less is taught on way of generating epidemiology hypotheses as well as the societal of dynamics of health and diseases.
