Fae Myenne Ng is an American novelist , on one of her novels Bone she told the story of three Chinese American daughter's growing up in her real childhood hometown of San Francisco Chinatown.Her work has received support from the American Academy of Arts & Letters' Rome Prize. She is a daughter of a laborer who has immigrated from Guangzhou, China. She was born on December 2, 1956 in San Francisco. Bone shows how an Chinese-American family lives in the United States and how everything isn't a picture perfect place. The middle daughter twenty-one year old Ona commits suicide. The oldest daughter who is also the narrator tells how Ona jumps off a building from the thirteenth floor. Her reasoning is never really revealed on why she jumped however the family is left to figure it out on their own as well as coping with her sudden death. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among people of 15-24 years old. Among Asian Americans, female Chinese Americans have a relatively higher suicide rate. Depression, stress, alcohol and drugs are main reasons as to why someone would commit suicide and female attempts are more found three times more often. In the book Ona was on downers which could have resulted in overdose and risked her attempts and increased her impulsivity. She was also experiencing problems within her life dealing with her family and relationship.
