In the autobiography Mission Possible, Dawn V Obrecht tells her story during her time as a missionary doctor and the path she had to go through to get there. Dawn was born into a Christian family and attended church and Sunday school and from a very young age Dawn knew found her passion. She was inspired by missionaries in her church who shared their experiences and adventures and connected this to her aspirations in medicine. Dawn from a very young age set out to be a missionary doctor. However, the path to her dream is met with many adversities. She experiences many family problems between her parents such as consistent arguments and alcohol addiction from her parents. Along with that the path to becoming a doctor is notoriously difficult with all the effort you need to put in. Dawn did not have the best functioning family. There were many things that made life difficult within her house hold such as verbal abuse and physical abuse. Although her father was a Christian he “…could suddenly become a vicious abuser…” (Obretch 353). Dawn’s father was a victim to alcoholism and the result was a degraded life at home. Her father would shout and scream at her mother verbally abusing her and sometimes physically abusing her. All this pain eventually caused her mother to do the same as her father which was to use alcohol to alleviate the pain. Although alcohol can be a temporary emotional bandage it still did not resolve the core issues within the household. Dawn, afraid, still lived through the same emotions every day, fear and anxiety. She did not know what she was coming home to, a sober normal family or a drunk and dysfunctional
