When we read any sort of literature we not only interpret what the author conveys, but we also interpret what we create in our minds while reading. Just by reading the title, or reading background information about the author and when the story was published, helps in assisting the reader in assuming what the short story will pertain to. When reading “All About Suicide” by Luisa Valenzuela, my first instinct was to assume that this is a short story about the topic of suicide. After reading the story I was left confused. Seeing as many nouns are being used, and to understand who they are referring to is hard to follow. Reading the story one more, I conclude that Ismael shot the minister. "Suicide, what a terrible concept. There are two types of suicide: physical, and theoretical. Physical suicide is the more commonly heard type of suicide. It entails the person actually, physically killing himself or herself. On the other hand, theoretical suicide is when the person does something that will, in turn, get him or her killed. For example, in “All About Suicide” by Luisa Valenzuela, Ismael, a man that works at a minister’s office, murders the minister, a high-ranking public official. Ismael has been forced to be quiet by the government; therefore he lashes out by killing the minister so that he can reveal the truth about the government. In doing this, Ismael technically “kills himself” because he knows the government will eventually find him and execute him. The theme of this story is that quite often, the truth is misconstrued or is hidden from the public. In order to reveal the truth, action must be taken to bring the truth to the people. Valenzuela reveals this theme through flashbacks, pronoun usage, and imagery.
According to Laurence Perrine in his seventh edition of Literature: Structure, Sound and Sense he states the definition of interpretive literature is 'Literature written to deepen and broaden and sharpen our awareness of life.'; Interpretive literature is not candy coated. It allows its readers to experience the trials and tribulations of life. By using graphically realistic plots and endings, which are consistent to those in real life, interpretive literature achieves a higher literary value than escape literature. Interpretive literature allows its reader too step out of the fantasy world they might be living in and focus on what the world is really about. One might say an interpretive story provides insight to understanding. Not only understanding of ourselves, but our neighbors, friends, family or anyone else we might encounter.

It was a typical January day, with one exception; it was the day the Pope came to St. Louis. My brother and I had tickets to the youth rally, and we were both very excited. It was destined to be an awesome day- or so we thought. The glory and euphoria of the Papal visit quickly faded into a time of incredible pain and sorrow, a time from which I am still emerging.

The novel is written in a short, choppy sentence structure using simple word choice, or diction, in a stream of consciousness to enable the reader to perceive the novel in the rationale of an eleven-year-old girl. One short, simple sentence is followed by another, relating each in an easy flow of thoughts. Gibbons allows this stream of thoughts to again emphasize the childish perception of life’s greatest tragedies. For example, Gibbons uses the simple diction and stream of consciousness as Ellen searches herself for the true person she is.

In 1987, Janice Mirikitani wrote and published a poem titled Suicide Note. The speaker of the poem, a female, Asian American college student who commits suicide after receiving slightly-less-than-perfect grades, gives repeated apologies to her parents and tells them exactly how she feels in a suicide note - one most probably addressed to them. In the poem, Mirikitani conveys a sad and somber mood while implementing an extended metaphor to compare the speaker to a bird.

In conclusion, it is hard to grasp the true meaning of the story unless the story is read a second time because of the author's style of writing.
Short stories are a form of literature works that authors use to communicate various themes and issues to the reader. As such, it is common for different short stories authored by different people to have a central meaning or theme that differs from each other. In addition, the way the author portrays his/her central theme or meaning would differ from the way other authors would craft their short stories to best portray their central meaning. While some would use characterization as a means of portraying the theme of their story, other authors employ the use of symbols to better communicate their theme. The United States estimates that nearly 30,000 people a year either attempt or completed the act of suicide. Studies from the World Health Organization indicate that suicide is one of the number one leading causes of our burden in the country. And is predicted to escalate as a tremendous global issue in years to come.

In a novel however the author may drop subtle hints as to their true intentions and build a better and more influential case to portray their case. A novel appears to be on the surface nothing more than an extended version of a short story and although in a sense this is true the novel brings to the table its own unique style of descriptive and enveloping writing. The short story is often written to entertain and amuse, ending with a deceptive twist. The novel however is slower to develop and will embrace more values and themes dealing with the most complex issues in such away to entertain the reader the depth of a novel allows for bonds to be developed between characters and reader that are more purposeful than that of short story counterparts. Their are numerous differences between the short story and the novel yet as a story their common purpose to enlighten, entertain and inform unites these forms of literature as what can only be described as a story.
I will give place the suicide letter of a young French girl, namely, Bertrande. She is daughter of a farmer family, the Guerre family. This family never join the revolution movements even though they had sympathetic feelings about revolution. The reason of their passive standing was Martin’s (father of Pamela) fear of to be labelled as traitor, to be judged and persecuted when king again takes the power. Due to his big fear, he did not allow to his wife and children to attend the revolution and they were not so willing too. Their passive standing ended in war in Vendee in 1793 because all of them persecuted except Pamela. In this subject, I will give place to the letter of Pamela that she wrote before her suicide.

In Japanese culture suicide is looked upon as honorable. In the novel Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami, Murakami looks at the negative effects of suicide. The novel does not give clear indications of why Kizuki commits suicide, but it shows the effects that suicide had on his friends Toru and Naoko. Naoko also takes her own life and Toru is left behind to mourn her death. The effects of suicide on his friends are isolation, emotional instability, and not being able to let go of the past.
Often times when I heard the word "suicidal" I was curiously caused the person to do it. Growing up, I heard that people decided to commit suicide was because they "wanted attention, they wanted the easy way out, they were weak, they couldn't handle life, etc." Personally, I have significant people in my life that have felt like they wanted to commit suicide. So, this topic honestly is a difficult, yet, emotional one to discuss.
