Stop killing whales Imagine you are on a boat out in the middle of the ocean. All of the sudden, there is a large black shape that jumps out of the water. It has long fins, and a white underside. It hops out, and then flops on its back shooting water high into the air. It creates a huge splash that causes your boat to rock back and forth in the waves. With a heart the size of a small car, and cells so big that a trout can swim through them, these creatures are giants. But believe it or not, they are some of the most gentle creatures in the sea. Many people have the misconception that whales are fish. Whales are not fish. They are mammals, just like humans. Despite being harmless, many people harpoon them. They pierce right through these gentle giants, drag their dead bodies through the sea, hoist them up onto the vessel, and drive back to port. They are then enjoyed in the form of a delicacy. When the harpoons pierce the whales’ hearts, it also pierces the hearts of many people. Most whales are endangered species, so it should be top priority to protect them. To add to that, many other animals would become endangered, or even die off without whales in the food chain. When you take out one brick, the whole building collapses. That is why there should be stricter international laws on whaling. Believe it or not, many species of whales are endangered. According to “WWF.org,” “Unfortunately their large size and mythical aura does not protect them; six out of the 13 great whale species are classified as endangered, even after decades of protection.” Many other endangered species, like the Giant Panda, Gray wolf, sea turtle, and the Bengal Tiger have strict laws on hunting them.
