As the word “slave” appear so many times in Goran Simic’s article “Goodbye Muse, Hello Prada, so that brings us a question: “Are there still slaves in Canada?” In his article, I don’t see an adverse opinion to this question. “…I’d switched from being a respectable poet to being a slave” (Simic 7) He even admit he used to be a slave when he newly came to Canada. I will give my answer in the following of this article. What slave is? Imagine that in the old days, thousands years ago, most of the human beings were doing labor work in groups as salves for their owners no matter how tired they were. As return, they got little food or household supplies. What is more, they were suffering physical and mental torture in their whole life. The time during that period belongs to himself and shows who he is. (12) After reading Simic’s article, I asked my husband yesterday, “Do you think there is slave in Canada?” . He works so hard every day for our living that he doesn’t have time to play badminton which it’s his favorite sports. He thinks he become the slave of life. Recall Simic descripted in his article that himself and other 20 workers in their work place, because of langue or other reason, they were all doing same labor work every day. It just like the slaves in old days in some point. (14) In the extended meaning of slave, I would say that there are lots of slaves in Canada even all over the world.
