So, you’re looking to become a man? When it comes to manly meals, the steak has always been a national favorite. In my honest opinion, the way you cook a steak and like it prepared says a lot about you. If a person likes well-done steak, they simply have no appreciation for the cow as an animal and should probably stray away from eating steak at all. In my world steak is made one way. The right way. On a gas-powered grill to lock in all flavonoids, and create mouth-watering diamond grill marks. To achieve the diamond shaped marks on your piece of meat will impress friends and houseguests all around as it takes skill to do. Within the United State there is only one set of standards to grade beef and beef products being distributed interstate. The USDA put these standards in place after the Wholesome Meat Act of 1967 which states that, “USDA has authority to control movement of unfit meat and meat products and to require poultry products in interstate and foreign commerce to meet Federal inspection standards.” There are seven standards in place for commercial beef sale in the United States; they are on a sliding scale. Excellent quality beef is labeled as prime, which has a high degree of marbling or fat throughout the back, loin, ribs, and rump. Prime beef is going to be mainly used in steakhouses and restaurants throughout the nation. The quality of this particular type of beef is superior to the next standard of beef, choice...
Whether you consider yourself a ‘foodie’ or not, the story of those standards is an interesting one. It so happened that in 1970, a group of farmers got together and set the benchmarks for beef production in the US. And, as they say, the
Venison, the nutrient-rich meat from deer, is a great substitute for beef. According to Kevin Rail, a fitness trainer, venison is an extremely healthy substitute for beef. In his article, Nutritional Values of Venison vs. Beef, Rail states, “from a nutrient perspective, these meats are similar” (Rail). Venison is considered a complete protein because, like beef, all ten essential amino acids occur (Rail). These amino acids are needed to manage the metabolic functions in the body. Deer are wild game animals and are not fed in high rations like beef cattle are. Venison is a much leaner meat because it does not have the internal fat within the meat, typically known as marbling that beef is commonly known for.
The commercial beef cattle industry is one of the strongest agricultural industries in the United States of America. Since the late fifteenth century, cattle have dominated the North American continent, especially the United States. Much has changed, however, since their first arrival to America. Breeds have evolved and practices have improved. Possibly one of the only things that has not changed is the hard work, time, and effort that the American farmers and ranchers spend each day tending to their herds. There is around 89.3 million head of cattle in America and about 315.1 million people. That means that for approximately every four people in the United States, there is one beef cow. Beef cattle help expand our nation’s relations by providing exports. Some of our top export markets include Canada, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, and Hong Kong (Field, Thomas G.). An in-depth study of the commercial beef cattle industry reveals an industry overview, production and marketing phases, and products of beef.
Synthetic meat is one of the worlds most recent scientific uprises. This changes the way the world consumes our daily need for meat. If there is a way to cut down on the processing of livestock, it would save money, animals, and we would never have a fear of running out of food or catching a disease. This new way of making meat can bring a new outlook at the world’s meat. With the benefits to in vitro meat, or cultured meat, it could become more popular.

Meat has become a part of our culture in our country, where it is expected as part of each meal of the day. But the production of the meat raises questions on whether eating meat is ethical in people’s eyes. Studies in recent years have shown that the growing impact of our meat eating culture, has negatively affected different aspects around us. The problem is not about whether people should or should not eat meat, but that we should focus on how the production of meat can have negative affects and how we can limit those problems.

For a long time, hanger steaks were reserved solely for restaurant use or were used for making ground beef. It was popular because it offered a similar depth of flavor as more expensive steaks like ribeye but without the high cost. Hanger steaks have a coarse texture and long muscle fibers much like flank steaks. The texture can make them

What the American culture is used to is eating three meals with a few snacks in between a day, and two out of the three meals usually involve eating meat. Most people don’t realize the risks of eating meat. Today’s medical experts say that avoiding meat helps you avoid saturated fat. They have found out from studies that women who eat meat daily have a fifty percent greater risk of developing heart disease than vegetarian women and a sixty-eight percent greater risk in men (staff writer). People may not know about serious diseases meat can obtain such as, mad cow disease and foot-and-mouth disease. In the September 1999 issue of the Emerging Infectious Diseases, approximately 76 million food borne illnesses- resulting in 325,000 hospitalizations and 5,000 deaths occur in the United States each year from improperly cooked or diseased meat (Licher). That is a lot! You can also get salmonella poisoning from meat. People think that the problems come from eating red meat and are opting for fish over steak, but new evidence proves that fish can cause health problems too, risks that can’t be cooked away. This is a growing problem called histamine poisoning (Peck). Children are learning at a younger age that they don’t like meat, maybe because they don’t like the taste, or maybe it’s because they have a fear of eating their favorite cartoon or movie hero. For example, the pig from the movie “babe”.
The issue of meat consumption has been a controversial topic on whether to allow the practice or discontinue it, non-meat eaters argue it’s unethical because it is abusive to animals. On the other hand, meat consumers argue that eating meat is ethical as long as meat eaters are conscious of how their meat is collected and the treatment of livestock is fair. The consumption of meat is an act that an individual decides whether to partake in or not. Therefore, the option of eating meat should not be completely taken away, but it should be limited. Eating meat ties in with vegetarian and vegan diets, in the sense that both have to follow guidelines to create an ethical approach to eating any grown foods. The consumption of food is ethical when
