Sports Management: Personal Statement

I am currently majoring in Physical Culture and Sports in the School of Education under the Department of Kinesiology and Health. I plan on applying to Sports Management after completing the designated prerequisites and hopefully add on Advertising in Sports and Entertainment as a second major. When I was first accepted into UT the idea of claiming a major terrified me. I had so many interests and passions that I wanted to explore but couldn’t settle down on a single focus. There are aspects of both majors that intrigue me and I would be missing out if I majored in only one. My childhood mindset conceived a notion that families were supposed to be happy and enjoying one another’s presence to the fullest. I was raised with two loving and selfless parents and two incredible siblings. None of them went through hardships and they were always the most hopeful people I had known…or so I thought. The reality was that my dad came from a broken family and my mom had not seen her family for decades because she moved to the U.S to give us the opportunity of a better life. My parents made the move that so many hopeful families make in order for their children to have the opportunities they never had. Their unconditional support has gotten me through a lot and I want to repay them by showing them that their sacrifices are indisputably the greatest investment into my life. I realize why my parents never let us see them struggle and why they spoiled us with appreciation instead of commodities. Just being able to understand the privileges and rights we have in this country is something that keeps me motivated to go above and beyond just getting my degrees. I’m grateful for all the opportunities they have afforded to me. Everything I have done is to repay them for what they have given me. It gives me so much joy seeing them excited about the opportunities my brother and I have.
