Have you ever known 2 friends that disagree on many topics? Spongebob and Squidward are 2 characters from the show Spongebob Squarepants. They have few similarities, but most of all they are very different. These two may both live in the same neighborhood under the sea they have different personalities and like different things. Spongebob is a happy sponge who loves his job at the Krusty Krab. He comes to work almost every day as happy as he can be. He can not stay in one spot at a time so he often goes to hang out with his goofy friend Patrick who lives 2 houses away from him. People recognize spongebob as a small yellow sponge who wears brown shorts with a tie and no shirt. Any bad situation spongebob can make into a good one with his ongoing humor. He tells him jokes and often asks him to hang out together. Spongebob and squidward do have good times together. He really does love spongebob, but he doesn't act like it because he's embarrassed. When ever spongebob leaves squidward misses him. While Squidward may act like he doesn’t care about many things he does. Squidward can be nice to hang out with when he is not grumpy. Did you know that living with foster parents doesn’t give you the same love than your real family. The is why Ponyboy should stay with Darry instead of the system. He would be better off with Darry. Darry has shown that he is a responsible guardian because he has two jobs so that Ponyboy could stay in school. “Darry worked on two jobs at once, made good at both of them, and his outstanding record at school…” This proves that Darry is an outstanding guardian. The foster parents don’t give them the same love as their family. On the other side darry cares about him more than other foster parents. Darry is a good guardian and watches out for Ponyboy. Ponyboy has good grades and likes to be on the track team, this is good for his health.
Extract three is from an episode of the Nickelodeon TV show 'Drake and Josh', this particular TV show is aimed at male and female young people from age 8 to 13. It was first aired in 2004 and it only has male speakers within the extract. During this extract, Josh is working his usual job at the movie theatre, which his brother Jake is sitting in the foyer with his friend. A woman walk in that takes both of the brothers' interest because of her looks. For the most part, this extract outlines a stereotypical mind set of a teenage boy: obsessed with looks and very self-absorbed. Therefore, this definitely adheres to the idea of masculinity being based on dominance, self-assuredness, as well as autonomy. Deborah Tannen’s theory of difference states that women use cooperative overlapping, yet men just use adjacency pairs. Drake and Josh uncooperatively overlap throughout the extract, this displays that they are rather argumentative, so do not fully comply with Deborah Tannen’s theory.
...omedian, he used Sandy as the main topic often finishing the joke with Squirrels being ‘stupid’. This leads to Sandy often been looked at with wary and even the removal of her scientific awards. Apparently the scientific board of Bikini Bottom thought she had stolen them. Of course this lead to Spongebob taking back all what he said but the damage was done. Even in later episodes, the other fishes see Sandy as a savage stupid squirrel that their children should not get close to.
Two people could be living two very different lifestyles, yet they could be very similar in the way they act and react in the same situation. Charlotte from “The Metaphor” by Budge Wilson and the Mother character from “Borders” by Thomas King live very different lives but the way they deal with the problems they are faced with is very similar. Both protagonists have to deal with trying to be forced to be something they are not by society and their families, but Charlotte from “The Metaphor” has been challenged by her strenuous home, she must face her organized mother and orderly home; the Mother from “Borders” must stand up for what she believes in and fight for what she wants.
Overall, Ralph is friendly and active. He is not fat or skinny and is easy to get on with. The first impression of Jack that we get is that he is arrogant and dangerous, because the book brings him in as a shadow. He is very different compared to Ralph.
Children across the world enjoy the television show Spongebob for its loveable characters and humor. The most prominent of these characters is Spongebob Squarepants, a personified sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea, in a town called Bikini Bottom. He spends the majority of his time working as a chef at the Krusty Krab, a fast food restaurant run by a greedy crab named Mr. Krabs. Spongebob’s neighbor and co-worker, Squidward Tentacles, has a very cynical view of life, constantly complaining about Spongebob and praising the clarinet and other arts. Across from Spongebob lives his best friend, Patrick Star, a starfish known for little intelligence and extensive sleeping. Most episodes, he and Spongebob act on a new idea which leads to various consequences. Sandy Cheeks, a squirrel from Texas, sometimes joins Spongebob and Patrick in their adventures. While the show is marketed to children, it has many qualities suitable for teenagers and adults including occasional sophisticated humor and philosophical references. Two philosophies referenced in the show are Epicureanism and Existentialism. Epicurean beliefs are shown through Sandy and Mr. Krabs, while Squidward and Patrick showcase Existentialism.

Or that clothing item or accessory you saw in your favorite magazine? Whatever it was, it probably wasn’t as great as the gift you got on your first birthday: the gift of your life. Written in 1943, Philip Van Doren Stern wrote the short story “The Greatest Gift” to send to his friends and family instead of Christmas cards.
Ralph has low self-esteem and views himself as a person who has a temper, lives at a dump, has no friends or connections with other characters outside of work, and a person who wrecks things. Even though Ralph is the best at wrecking things he still gets no recognition for being the best, but only recognition for being a “bad guy”. Ralph does not understand why Felix is praised for doing an outstand job, whereas, Ralph also does an outstanding job. Ralph mention in his support group that he would also enjoy getting a pie or a medal because he wants more out of life than to just be the “bad guy”.
Ralph, the first character introduced to the audience, is probably the most likable character in the entire story. Although he does not ponder such deeply like Piggy, is not as spiritual like Simon, or as energetic as Jack, there is something in him that attracts the audience. Ralph serves as the protagonist of the story. He is described as being a playful, innocent child in the beginning, but towards the end he matures significantly. In the first chapter where he takes his clothes off and goes swimming like any child would do, he seems to be Adam in the Garden of Eden, a child left to play with the nature.
It is hard to find a perfect match for Piggy. He is full of sensible, bright ideas, but because he is fat, a nerd and wears glasses, no one will listen to him except for Ralph. He was also kind of irritating. For example, he followed the rules too much. If something wasn’t done the way he knew was right, he would get all irate. Then, of course, when it went wrong, Piggy had no hesitation in telling people that he could’ve done it better.
The stories Remembering My Childhood on the Continent of Africa and Self-Discovery and the Danish Way of Life are easily comparable. The narrators of both stories write about a time in which they are experiencing a different culture. They also write about their yearnings for self-discovery through exotic experiences. The viewpoints, however, of each writer are at opposite ends of the spectrum. In Self-Discovery and the Danish Way of Life, the narrator writes about his international experiences while studying abroad in Denmark. On the other hand, in Remembering My Childhood on the Continent of Africa, the narrator never actually visits Africa. Instead, he figuratively visits the continent through the experiences of another person. These stories may appear to be similar because of the comparable aspirations of the narrators. However, they are also different with respect the narrators’ unique viewpoints on life.
Often times in our life, we may come across a lifestyle of a character from a fictional book, movie or tv show, that is different than our owns. It could be a life that we would dream to have or a life that we could not possibly imagine having. Focusing on the childhood aspects of a lifestyle, my young self would often compare my childhood to the protagonist in one my favorite cartoons (“Fairly Odd Parents”) Timmy Turner. Timmy’s childhood was a lifestyle that enthralled me from how similar yet different it was from my own.
Squidward Tentacles is an employee at the Krusty Krab. He is a 34 year old male. He resides in Bikini Bottom. His hobbies include playing his clarinet and painting multiple pictures which he has false hope will one day be published in some museum. He has hatred for going to work, and is horrible with customer service. He exhibits a strong desire to fit in with a higher caste than himself. There have been many episodes though where when given the chance to prove himself worthy of a higher caste he will retreat to a safer place like his house. His esteem level seems very low. He never leaves his house other than for work either. He hates being social and that’s very obvious in every action Squidward carries out. He rarely dates and when he does there is never a second date. He is a healthy man of his age. He really doesn’t have many friends. There is his two neighbors Spongebob Squarepants and Patrick Star, they want to be friends with him but Squidward can barely tolerate either of them. When he is sad he usually turns to his music, painting, or bubble baths which he takes very often. His life goal or aspiration is to be a famous artist and musician. He’s a very smart individual but has absolutely horrible social skills.
Both Piggy and Ralph’s personalities had a large amount of contrasts that determined their relationship at the beginning of the story. Piggy was the outcast, due to his large awkward body, his thick glasses and his know-it-all personality. While Ralph on the other hand was the stereotypical image of an ordinary boy. Piggy had no friends, besides those that he lived with. Thus was not used to being among other children. He quickly trusted, and latched onto Ralph, ignoring Ralph’s constant teasing . Ralph was insecure as all boys his age are, he didn’t really want to be caught liking the outcast so he teased him. “I don’t care what they call me, so long as they don’t call me what they used to call me at school…They used to call me Piggy'; (Golding: pg.11) Piggy confided to Ralph, asking him to be secretive, thinking that Ralph was his friend. When really he couldn’t care less about Piggy’s fate. Ralph betrayed Piggy by announcing to all the other boys Piggy’s name, not really caring about the consequences it would have on Piggy and Ralph’s friendship. Piggy is hurt but quickly forgives and forgets, thinking that him and Ralph are friends. Ralph doesn’t really mind Piggy’s dependence upon him, but finds Piggy to be a bore and does not consider him to be a friend. “Piggy was a bore; his fat, his ass-mar and his matter of fact ideas were dull, but their was always a little pleasure to be got out of pulling his leg, even if one did this by accident'; (Golding: pg.65). Ralph joined the others in teasing him, especially about his asthma and his love and dependence upon his auntie.
