According to Wild Iris Medical Education (2013), a mental health crisis is an intensive behavioral, emotional, or psychiatric response triggered by a precipitating event and if this crisis is left untreated, it could result in an emergency situation, placement of a person into a more restrictive setting such as inpatient hospitalization, or significantly reduced levels of functioning in the person’s primary activities of daily living. criteria include impairment in social interaction; repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behaviour; significant impairment in social, occupational or other areas of functioning; no clinically significant delay in language of cognitive development. It should be noted that DSM IV has now been superseded by DSM V which has removed Asperger’s as a specific diagnosis and incorporated it into autistic spectrum disorders (APA, 2013); however, many professionals disagree with this and continue to make use of
profession, which is in the process of establishing elder law as a defense to issues with in the elder community. Nursing homes have a duty to provide many things to the elderly including medical, social, pharmaceutical, and dietary services so that the individual may maintain the highest well-being possible. Stated another way 'a nursing facility must care for its residents in such a manner and in such an environment as will promote maintenance or enhancement of the quality of life of each resident.'
