This essay will outline the roles and responsibilities of a teacher in life long learning. It will then explain the relationship between teachers and other professionals in the life long learning. Finally, this essay will explore how to establish and maintain a safe and supportive learning environment. 1.1. List the key aspect of legislation, regulation requirement and codes of practice related to your subject. Being a teacher in life long learning sector is a big responsibility and there are lots of policies which govern teaching as a whole. This paper will talk about the key legislations and policies which health and social care teachers are required to adhere to in my chosen area. There are lots of policies and procedures that need to be maintained as a teacher of a health and social care. Here is a list of some of the currant policies:- • Human Rights Act (1998) • Health and safety at work Act (1974) • Data Protection Act (1998) • Disability Discrimination Act • Criminal records bureau clearance • Equality Act (2006) • Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) • NHS and Community care Act(1990) • Freedom of Information Act (2000) • Inclusion Policy • Mental Capacity (2005) (Bingham The Human Rights legislation is an international legislation. It is a universal declaration of Human rights, the European Convention on Human Rights (1950) (Geneva Convention) which involves: - Ensuring Individual’s privacy and dignity - Ensuring individuals exercise their rights and can make choices - Individual treatment and respect(Bingham p. 292) Health and social care lecturers must be aware and implement the Human Rights Act and show respect to their students and treat them fairly. This can be achieved by adhering to all the government legislations relating to educational institutions and the code of conduct of the organisation. To begin with one of the roles of the teacher is to identify the needs of the learner, plan and design a lesson, deliver a lesson, carry out an assessment and evaluate both learner’s progress and his/her teaching strategies.
