High School Musical Analysis As one views the movie “High School Musical” by director Kenny Ortega, certain sociological characteristics are prominently seen throughout the movie. The most well-known topics would be social interaction and social networks. The characters of the movie convey crucial key points that each topic stresses, and certain relationships between the characters represent the types of networks each character possesses. The main topic that is presented during the movie is social interaction because the plot of the movie ultimately needs stereotypical characters. Troy Bolton, the protagonist of the movie, is the typical good-looking jock who falls in love with Gabriella Montez the beautiful nerd. Certain obstacles are presented throughout the film that prevents the two lovers from being together. However, the main focus at this moment would be how their statuses were both an achieved status because Troy became the captain of the basketball team through intense dedication, and Gabriella was intelligent because of the time she spent studying. As the movie progresses there is a defined line that separates the in-group and out-group of the film, the in-group being Troy and Gabriella, as well as their friends, and the out-group being Sharpay and Ryan. Typically in-groups are identified by the loyalty one feels towards a particular group, which in this case is Troy and Gabriella’s friend group, who exclude Sharpay and Ryan, which are considered to be the antagonists in some form making them the out-group.
