Distinguish between economic regulation and social regulation. What were the original objectives of regulation, and which historical factors have shaped the development of regulation? What are the principal arguments on both sides of the historical debate about regulation?

-economic regulation addresses market relations such as securities, antitrust matters, and interstate commerce. Then the idea is to attempt to ensure stability in this realm. Social regulation, also known as protective regulation, addresses harmful consequences to workers, consumers, and citizens of productive activities.

The ongoing argument today is on whether or not regulation is morally right and desirable. One one hand it has been said that government regulation has been accused of stifling innovation, accelerating inflation, increasing unemployment, and decreasing international competitiveness. On the other hand it has been said that the point of regulatory agencies in a capitalist society is to maintain broad popular legitimation of the system while promoting corporate accumulation of profits. One way would be for criminologists can play a major role in creating attention towards this issue. This would call for them to appear on television and radio. It would be considered public criminology, which is when a criminoligist to focus more upon public policy concerns, rather than focusing doing major research. Also grassroots organizations are key in playing a large role in repsonding to corporate crime. Along with this comes something that when said is obvious but is not discussed enough. When you see that you have a crooked employee, you need to terminate them immediately. It is crucial that we also make public awarness to this crime, whether its a small level or large offense. Some other ideas are creating a fraud awareness program for the company, and hiring a company forensic accountant to independently look at all accounts to determine if their are
