Throughout history humans have longed to socialize with each other on a regular basis. In history books we can finds drawing of cavemen sitting around fires, and we can presume they are trying to stay warm and quite possibly socializing too. In the Middle Ages the Romans had public bath houses where they went to take baths and socialize. People in the Modern Age of Information and Technology still socialize; however, during the last ten years the ways we socialize have changed. Some of these have changed for the better, others for the worse. Social networking sites like Myspace and Facebook have greatly revolutionized how we socialize as humans. These websites offer so many ways to connect virtually with the world around us. However, hidden under the glamour of technology are thousands way that our privacy can be invaded and our professional and personal security threatened. If we use Social networking sites without moderation, we might put so much information on the internet it can used to destroy our lives: both virtually and in reality.
The biggest problem with social networking sites is they take away so much of our time. Most successful people can agree that social networking is pretty much a loss of quality time if people use it all day every day. When people socialize via social networking sites, they tend to socialize less in real life. This replacement of real life with virtual reality is not healthy for humans. We are becoming a people who are less social and who live more in a virtual reality. Sitting in front of computers for hours is not very healthy in numerous ways. When we use social networking sites, we sit in front of computers even more when we are at home, or when we are away from home, we spend a lot...

Social networking has come a long way since the introduction of multiple social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook in the early 2000s. Nowadays, it is almost certain that any application that involves online interactions can be linked to a social networking site. Social networking has reached a new level; almost every web application must-have or will-recommend its users to connect their application profiles to their social networking profiles. Because social networking sites and social media contain the personal information of its users, social media users are constantly connected in their tightly knit communities present on the web. Social media partakers are updated and connected with the information shared on the web. But while social media can strengthen connections between people, online interactions can also harm relationships. Progressively increasing amount of time spent on online networks can affect people psychologically and; as a result, the transition into a new era of social interactions is slowly transforming the way people interact with one another. In addition to the developing problems with the interactions of social media users, there is also the concern of the privacy of the common social media user. By updating and maintaining a personal profile online, social networking users display their personal information on the Internet, which is, according to WordNet, a lexical database designed by Princeton University, “...a computer network consisting of a worldwide network of computer networks…” (WordNet). Aside from being connected to a community of friends and family, social network users are connected to other Internet users across the world allowing interactions with some strangers likely.
The World Wide Web which was created in the early 90s specifically for US military forces has lately being converted into a convenient tool for communication, learning tool and entertainment. One of the most recognized platforms used on the internet are the social networking sites. There has been a great increase in the use of social networking sites, what started back as a phenomenon for only computer literates is now an integral part and a social norm for adults and teenagers all over the world.
Spending much time on the social sites can divert the focus and attention from a particular task. And tt lowering the motivation level of the community, especially for the youth and students. They really rely on the technology and the internet instead of learning the practical knowledge and proficiency of the everyday life.
Social medias have become a big part of our society now, they are being used in all aspects of our life. We are connected twenty-four hours a day, at work, school, home, shopping etc. There is a necessity, a need to be connected to these social media’s, to feel like you are a part of society. With these growing numbers in being connected to social media’s on the web, there comes a growing desire for privacy and safety. In this paper I will discuss and analyze the social media’s themselves, the dangers that arise from them, and how all these correlate to privacy.
Social Networking sites play an essential role in today’s culture as they provide people with the ability to interact, blog, share pictures and videos, flirt, and date without having to move an inch. People pour their minds and hearts into the world of cyber communication; it is an easier way for them to clear their heads without having a face-to-face confrontation. Undoubtedly, this is advantageous to certain people. It helps establish connections with people, friends and family from any corner of the world, but one cannot ignore the extensive privacy breach that occurs in the universe of online social media.
This research is unique because it will give light to the individuals who are against social networking that will not take to consideration that it has any positive outcomes at all and to those who believe that social networking has no downfalls and are too blinded by the social networking to even notice the affects it has on their own lives.
Upon the advent of social networking websites, an entirely new level of self-expression was formed. People instantly share updates on their lives with family, friends, and colleagues, reconnecting with those they had lost contact with. Social networking has now become an integral part of contemporary society – a modern analog for catching up with friends over slow, conventional methods or finding upcoming events in newspapers. However, along with this freedom of information, the danger of revealing too much personal information has become apparent. As such, online social media poses an imminent danger to society as it blurs the line between private and public information, creating an obsession with sharing one’s personal life online.
Social media has nothing but negative effects on people’s minds. Social networking can become very addicting and people can get wrapped up in the drama and excitement of the cyber world. It would only improve our society today if social media never existed to our knowledge. Our society today feels so connected with social media that it interferes with our lives making every task even harder with the temptations.
Social networking is doing more harm than good in society, if traditional and personal interactions continue to be replaced with conversations through online networking sites, it won’t be long before they are perceived as the ‘norm’. Traditional methods of interaction will continue to be at risk if the effects of social media are not realised. Social networking sites were created as a means of making it easier for individuals to communicate in a timely and efficient manner, they were not created to take over face-to-face communications altogether. The constant use of online networking is doing more harm than good not only individually, similarly through the community
There are some downsides to being constantly connected to everybody through social media. The biggest down side is not communicating to loved ones and family through real life interaction, but instead through social media. That is a serious problem to some people, especially those who use technology and are familiar to technology. Because they might not feel the urge to make human interaction, they are just attracted more to technology.
Some people cannot live without social networks that it gets to the point that it becomes a problem. A lot of people that on Facebook they cannot live without it, they are addicted. Facebook will become an addiction when one finds constant pleasure from the experience. It has been said that Facebook and other networks it can give you the same satisfaction that the craving for food, sex or drugs gives us. If you are at that point, you need to ask yourself if you are on that network for too long. Everything has its limits for a reason because doing anything in excess can and will end up harming you one way or another. What Dr. Sreedhar Potarazu had to say about the addiction and harmful consequences of the side effects of Facebook is “The reality
One of these disadvantages is whether there is invasion of privacy while people are on social networking sites. With having personal information online, some wonder if their information is really safe despite social networking sites having various safety tools. Another disadvantage of social networking is that it could lead to someone missing at on a job or a dream school. It is often said that employers now check the Facebook page of prospective employees. The same potentially could be said about universities when they are deciding which students to accept or reject. One post could basically ruin one’s future. There seem to be many more disadvantages, such as does cyberbullying and the spread of false
76% of American adults online use social networking sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin, and Pinterest, as of July 2015, up from 26% in 2008. A social network is a website that brings people together to talk, share ideas and interests, or make new friends. Some believe social networks harm the society because it’s a waste of time and can be very dangerous; however it can be a very useful tool like staying in touch with family and finding out about the news.
