Believe it or not, social media is providing officers new avenues and tools to help them solve more crimes. There are so many people now that have such large online presences like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and Myspace. investigators can gain new tips and insights into crimes committed in their communities. The fact is, Facebook is helping to catch criminals. Sometimes, police are able to get tips from suspects' "friends" after the suspect inevitably brags about his deviant behavior on the social networking site. Other times, detectives can gather evidence from pictures or video posted on sites like Facebook and Instagram. For example, it also provides helpful insight on how people are feeling or their state of mind just by the statues they post or the photos and comments they like. Also, by looking at posts, likes, and comments it gives law enforcement important clues to where runaway people are headed, and investigators can have an idea on their plans or patterns their moving in.
