As the world has grown older, technology has increasingly introduced new aspects of life in all areas of study. In the past several hundred years, many scientist have given their efforts to prove multiple theories on how weather patterns can be predicted. Fortunately, the technology that scientist and meteorologist obtain in today’s present time can without a doubt accurately predict weather and its patterns many days before. Specifically, hurricane technology is extremely advanced and can predict the disastrous outcomes days before it even hits the land. An article written by Helena Horton discusses the effects of the recent hurricanes Harvey and Irma. The writer explores into the issue by interviewing various experts and reviewing scientific studies. Horton gives key evidence that gives means as to how the occurrence of hurricanes will increase as well as their danger factor. The article says, “Sea surface temperatures under Irma are 1 to 1.5°C higher than the average for this time of year providing abundant moisture and warmth. The wind shear (change in wind with height) is low, meaning air can flow in up and out of the hurricane very efficiently, thus promoting intensification” (Horton 3). This information contradicts the stance in the essay by leaning towards the thought of the threat of hurricanes increasing. Even though the …show more content…

An article by Kerry Emanuel focuses mainly on the scientific facts given by studies and scientist in order to get across the point of that the threat of hurricanes will increase. Even though Emanuel leans more towards disagreeing that the threat of hurricanes will not improve, the article incorporates scientific data and predictions, making it a crucial addition to this essay. The article says, “At the same time, projected increases in coastal population will continue to expose more and more people to tropical cyclone hazards, making preparations and evacuations more difficult and costly” (Emanuel 500). She says this in order to make her claim that the threat of hurricanes will in turn increase due to careless human activity on Earth. She presents the increase in projected amount of people moving to areas where hurricanes can impact with evacuation and relief factors to explain how much more difficult it will be for aid organizations and businesses to help in the near future. Emanuel sums up the data and science in the article with her concluding thoughts by saying, “The present work suggests that the incidence of storms that intensify rapidly just
