So Much to Tell You: Essay Topic Question- Discuss how Marina changes from the beginning of the book to the end. How do her feelings change? How does her behaviour towards other people change? What part do her relationships with her family and school friends play in these changes? So Much to Tell You is Marina’s story of how she is able to heal and develop into a confident, teenage girl. Marina, who is troubled by her father’s traumatising actions, now trying to recover and overcome her tormented past. Marina has been severely affected by traumatic events that causes her to stop communicating with others. Throughout the novel, Marina becomes more capable as she slowly improves in her behaviour, emotions and her relationships with family and friends. After this understanding, she became more happy and appreciative of her friends. Marina tried to hide herself and her emotions from others. This slowly improved after the incident at the Lindell’s where she could not help herself from crying. This was shown when she wrote, “…I was going to cry, and there was no power on earth that could stop it. And so I sat there crying and crying, struggling all the time to control it…” Marina was very angry and annoyed because her mother gave up on her when she put her in the boarding school. Marina slowly accepted that she didn’t need her mother in her life as she was able to grow and improve with the help of her friends and teachers.
