There are other similarities between the birth stories of Siddhartha and Jesus, both woman were forced to travel during their pregancies. Mary needed to travel to Bethlehem which was the town from which her husband’s family had lived as it was decreed by Caesar Augusta that the entire world be registered, in other words it was the first census. Mahamaya too was required to travel but not due to the order of a ruler but because it was the practice of the time that the pregnant woman travel back to the kingdom of her father.
