“In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game”, by Richard Connell, a man named Sanger Rainsford goes on a trip, head for the Amazon. He later then jumped off the boat because he saw a large island that is said to be a mystery. He meets a man, known as General Zaroff. He later explains a game that Rainsford does not like, but he decides to play the game. Rainsford use his cleverness to defeat Zaroff and wins the game. Rainsford talks to Whitney about a large island that is know to be a mystery. It is called “Ship-Trap Island.” They are both on yacht on the way to the Amazon. “Off to the right, somewhere is a large island”. (Page 13) Rainsford then wakes up and hears 3 gunshots coming from somewhere. He climbed onto a rail trying to figure out where it was coming from. He later lost balance and fell of the boat and he tried to cry out but he was hit by the water. “He lunged for it; a short, hoarse cry came from his lips as he realized he had reached to far and had lost balance”. In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” Rainsford was justified in killing General Zaroff. Rainsford is a hunter. He was on a yacht that crashed and he was the only survivor. The island that he swam to was named “Ship Trap Island.” This where General Zaroff lived. He is also a hunter. He has hunted anything you can think of. Even… people. He has the survivors from the ship wrecks “play” his “game.” The survivors go out into the jungle and General Zaroff goes out and finds them. They have three days to survive. If they don’t get caught in those three days, they win. If they lose… they are killed. This happened to Rainsford. Rainsford, thankfully, won the “game.” He shot General Zaroff after his win.
There are many similarities and differences between the story “The Most Dangerous Game” and the episode of Gilligan's Island that we watched. Some similarities include: someone is being hunted, the setting is similar, and both victims get away in the end. Some differences include: the moods of the stories, the strategies that are used by the huntees, and how the hunter got to the island.

Like many other films, the director has done some adjustments that differ from the short-story. The plot, setting, and characters were revised from the original form in the short-story. However, the difference in the characters was the most influential part that changed throughout the film.
When world renowned hunter, Sanger Rainsford ends up marooned on an island, he finds himself in an unimaginable word. A world full of murder. He must find a way to save himself and the ones around him. To begin with, the setting for “The Most Dangerous Game” is very fitting. The author, Richard Connell, picked the best place to set the story. Reason being, the mansion is on a large island that is feared by everyone. Also the mansion, on the outside at least, looks scary. Since it was dark out and there were cliffs surrounding the house, there was a scary shadow that was cast down. While on the yacht, Sanger Rainsford, the main character or protagonist, came across this island and asked for the name. His friend Whitney replied, “The old charts call it ‘Ship Trap Island’,” (Connell). Ship Trap Island is the name of the island. It doesn’t sound like a happy place to be but it is the dark and violent thoughts and feelings that come with the title, which perfectly fits the theme of the story.
