The movie I decided to do for my film analysis presentation was the “Shawshank Redemption” directed by Frank Darabont. The Shawshank Redemption narrates the story of an innocent man’s stay and eventual escape from prison despite all obstacles in his way. Andy Dufresne played by Tim Robbins is convicted of murdering his wife and her lover the beginning scenes of the film. After being sentenced to two consecutive life terms in jail, Andy arrives at Shawshank Prison. Andy remains quiet for weeks, staying out of everyone’s way. Finally, Andy breaks his silence when he talks to Red played by Morgan Freeman, the man in Shawshank that could do and tell you anything to anyone. After having a conversation about a rock hammer it was the beginning of Andy and Red’s friendship. The movie has different types of themes that you could probably pick out in the movie for an example freedom and friendship. The scene had a lot of zooming in and out, the zooming in is when Red was reading the letter that Andy wrote him once he was out of jail. As well as when it was first opening up the letter, the audience is wondering what’s going to happen next and what the whole letter all about. Eventually the camera zooms out to show a lot of reaction shot and how happy Red was while he read the letter and know Andy was still out there looking for him. There were a lot of reaction shots in the film especially when the two finally reunited. Then the camera zooming out the way to show that it was the end of the movie and again having the audience wonder what’s going to happen next. The sounds as well had a lot of impact to do with it, the slow music showing the emotion that Red had after reading the letter from
