When juvenile are being sentenced life in prison for committing murder has always been an issue in many court cases. Some believe that they don 't deserve a second chance and that they should be sentenced life in prison but others do believe in second chances. There are many reasons to why juveniles should be given a second chance in life when they commit a crime such as murder. For example, the brain of these juveniles is not fully developed, the environment can influence them to do such crimes and there 's still ways for them to change and turn their life around.

Two 12 year old boys, John Duncan and Manuel Sanchez, had guns and were shooting at trees and bottles. They were disturbing a man by the name of Emilio Pruneda; he asked both of the boys to stop shooting but none of them listened. So he threw a rock which hit Sanchez in the forehead, cutting him. Duncan, just trying to protect his only friend, shot Pruneda. So should these two kids be tried as adults ? No. According to an article from the weekly reader, they say “Some states have also set up “boot camp” prisons for young offenders.” With these “boot camp” available for young offenders, there’s still a possibility for them to get to turn their life around. The “boot camp” include rigorous physical conditioning, discipline, confidence, leadership and activities to boost up their self-esteem. After several months in these “boot camp”, young offender will want to change their life around and become someone in life instead of going back to the same path that was leading them into trouble.

Many believe that locking away juveniles is the best way to keep society safe but they are wrong. Locking juveniles away does more harm than any good. Expert say that there’s “a decline in juvenile crime, concerns about the cost of adult prisons, and growing understanding that adolescents have a greater potential for rehabilitation than adults do.” There’s no need to spend so much money on juveniles in prisons when …show more content…

He loved school and his favorite teacher, who he had killed, Barry Grunow. He grew in an environment that was very abusive and where there was alcohol. There have been multiple times where the cops arrive to his house for domestic violence. After serving 28 years in prison and 7 in house arrest, he was still able to visit his old school to take flowers for Grunow. Teacher could not believe that he has grown so much to an adult. This shows that there 's still a chance for them to change their life. Many may argue that not everyone will change.
