My idea for the school mascot is a Cardinal. The name should be Cardinal High School. This is because the Indiana State bird is a cardinal. It gives a new name to the new school while also remembering the shared heritage between the two schools. A common symbol or name is important to a community because it brings them together. All schools should have a mascot and theme because it gives spirit and pride to the school. The new principal should use the new school mascot and symbols to unite the diverse students. The new principal should also remember and carry on some of the traditions at the other high school to benefit the new school. This school has had 5 principals in 4 years. I spoke earlier about this school being a part of the I-zone. The I-zone is a special subset of schools within Shelby County that are given the task of leading a school from the bottom 5% to the top 25%. In that there is a high turnover rate with administrators and teachers. I was selected to be a turnaround principal given a certain amount of time with the authority to make necessary changes. The community asked for a principal they could relate to. They wanted to be involved with the school and wanted resources given back to them so they could help their children. I listen to community concerns and established a parent power committee so they could be partners in education with us. We reached out into the community to garner some wrap around services to help and support our students. We gained seven (7) new Adopters who have formally taken the charge to provide resources that all students will need to achieve academically. Life Church gives us food. Bellview Baptist Church comes in and tutors all our 2nd grade students. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity has volunteered to come in and work with our students on STEM projects. We have Omega Psi Phi who comes in an exposes our kids to social and character development. And the list goes on. There just so many programs and organizations ready to work with us because they know
The historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) are fledgling to compete with Predominately White Institutions (PWIs). HBCU were established to serve the educational needs of black Americans. Before HBCU college was create blacks were generally was denied admission to traditionally all white institutions. Since black Americans was prohibited from whites schools HBCUs became the principle means for providing postsecondary education. There are several reasons why all blacks’ schools does not compete with predominately white schools. HBCU’s most of the time do not keep their accreditation, their tests scores are very low, and do not get as much funding

Teams will have mascots that range from anything, from an animal to an inanimate object, like a hammer or an orange. Mascots rarely fall under scrutiny, except for the mascots that represent Native American tribes, people or cultures. Many schools and teams use some sort of Native American reference as a mascot. The Native American mascots used range from names like the Indians, Chiefs, and Braves, which are some of the more generic ones, to Seminoles, Fighting Illini, and Chippewas to name some of the tribal based names.

What makes the topic about confederate flags so controversial? There are two sides to this topic. On one side we have people saying that it should be placed where the public can look at it. On the opposing side we have people that want to get rid of it. Does removing the flag violate our first amendment of free speech? A mascot character helps connect to the people and make them feel more welcome. Take Tony the Tiger for instance, Tony is a Friendly Tiger who has fun making kids happy and safe. He talks about his great experiences in his adventures and compares them to Frosted Flakes. Kelloggs used Tony for their cereal, Frosted Flakes, for kids to be amused by Tony and his silly remarks and beg their parents to buy Frosted Flakes because their grrrrrreat!
Let me begin by saying that I am very honored to be addressing the County High School Class of 2012 as students of this institution for the last time. We've spent these last four years creating some serious memories: four years of chieftain power, leaking roofs, questionable Homecoming skits, and musical principals. Four years of good teachers, bad teachers, new teachers, old teachers. Four years of youth, music, growing up and breaking free. Four rubber chickens, four yearbooks, four ASB presidents and four chubby bunnies.
